Reflective tape

Are older travel trailers and 5th wheels required to sport the reflective tape on the sides these days, or are the factory side markers still acceptable?

Thanks---------Robert

Re: Reflective tape

It might have been just Indiana, but all semi trailers are required to have continous reflective tape along the sides. I'm not sure what the minimum weight is for that requirement, but I don't think it included the smaller stuff. I'd probably do it if it were my 5er. Gemplers sells the tape and associated stuff:

I definitely planed on adding it later, the stuff makes a difference, especially when crossingdark roads, but I'm going 400 miles to fetch a trailer andjust wondered if I needed to bring a roll of the stuff with me for the trip back.

Thanks--------Robert

Re: Reflective tape

It Is Called Dot Tape and it is required on ALL Comercial vehicles. Also the marker lights are required on all comercial vehicles. Some startes are even cracking down on people that add light to the original light, that change the marking of the vehicle.

Can be bought at any truck stop.

Private owned vehicles don't have to have it.

That's the ticket! as long as I don't need it, I'm good to go. I'll add some later though, the stuff really does make a trailer more visible, especially if hanging out in the roadway trying to pull in somewhere.

Thanks---------Robert

Are you talking about the guys that put extra lights all over their truck? If you are its about time....
I really, really hate those very bright amber or red lights angled down, typically mounted on the mirrors that light up the inside of your car when you go by.

Re: Reflective tape

I put some on my box trailer.

It's called conspicuity tape. The besy price I found was from www.tapeagent.com Muchcheaper than any other place anywhere, especially truck stops.

Re: Reflective tape

I get my reflective tape from AWDirect.com.

I think more is better:

Re: Reflective tape

I found short pieces at the local Napa store and installed them on the ends of my slide outs.
