rv tail gate help

got a new f450 and have the old louvered tail gate from my 06. as well all the know the body is the same, but the 08 has a bit more "anti theft" for the tail gate, and the old gate will not work without somesort of an adaptor to allow for a different shape at the end. anyone know where to get this adpator?? thanks.

Re: rv tail gate help

I ran into the same problem. I solved my situation by taking a piece of wood & making an adapter which fit the 08 truck & the old tailgate. If you don't have tools to make it, check with a friend who could make it. It is quite easy to make & can be done with minimum of effort. Good Luck.

Re: rv tail gate help

I had to buy a new rv tail gate when I traded my Chevy 3500 for an 08 F450. Purchased at Camping World (don't remember the brand, but made in Canada) and it came with a separate bracket that is designed just for the Ford application. The tail gate fitting on the drivers side is a unique shape. You might be able to get a bracket from this company (check for the company name at the Camping World web site) and solve your problem.

I have a Job #2 with the rear camera and tail gate step. The weight of that tailgate is really substantial compared to the Chevy---almost need two people to manage it otherwise I love it.

Re: rv tail gate help

I have the same tail gate. Used it on my 99, 01, 05, and now the 08. I did have to buy a new drivers side bracket for the 08. It cost $25.00.

I have the tail gate step on the 08 and I cannot change it by myself. Of course I'm in the "GEEZER" stage of life.

Re: rv tail gate help

I originally purchased my tail gate from Camping World. I knew the make of it and Googled the manufacturer which was in Canada. Called them up and they sent me the new part and a letter was attached asking for $25.00 for the part since my gate was out of warrenty. I sent the $25.00.

Re: rv tail gate help

I have a Stromberg Carlson V gate which I originally bought for my '03. I emailed them about an adapter for my '08 and they put one in the mail no charge! That's what I call customer service.
