How often do you guys change out the tires on your RV's? My Carliles are six years old now and have 80% tread and no weather checks or cracks. Should I keep on truckin' or am I a blowout waiting to happen?
I always thought Carlise were a blowout waiting to happen regardless of age.
Tire manufactures will tell you the rubber breaks down over time and 6 years is time to think about replacement. Most trailer tires do not wear out the tread before replacement is required.

I wouldn't take a chance on them. If you lose a cap off one it can really cause some damage. I started slinging caps off the tires on my dual tandem flatbed trailer a few summers ago. Also had one tire blow out. Tires were only 5 years old and looked like new. I'd never had this happen before. Replaced all 8 tires and kept the best one for a spare. Looked the other day and the tread had split and separated from the tire without it even being on the ground.
I sure would replace them. I deliver new RV's from the factory, and the original tires on most new travel trailers are the cheapest the Manufacturers can buy. This has really been the case in the past few years. The high end units, especially fifth wheels have decent rubber. Those "gators" sure can do some damage.

5th wheel, always garaged, tires covered, maintained and no cracks. High end tires. Year 6, 50 miles into 10 day trip, sidewall on 1 tire failed, damaged to trailer cost more than 2 sets of tires. Tire dealers response, on these heavy trailers, we tell everyone not to run more than 5 years. "These travel trailers just can not handle a tread beating on them."

Same as 69mach. Changed out the old ones even though they still had lots of tread. 5 years is a long time under the weight the tires carry. It is interesting to see the tire guys look when they change out the tires. They actually said that I was crazy for buying new tires. I told them that there is no amount of money that can replace piece of mind and the safety of my family. I've seen friends get a blowout and want to reduce my chances of it happening to me.

On my flatbeds, I run them until I have my first blowout or there signs that a tire could blowout. Here I have I-beam frames, steel deck or 2x6 wood deck, that if a tire blows, it won't do any damage. My truck spare fits my trailers other than being a off center wheel and good enough to get me into town where they all get replaced or the new single is used as a new spare when new skins are bought. There all the same size and all get new tires at the same time per vehicle.
If my truck goes longer than 8yrs and still not worn out, then there moved to a trailer and the trailer tires are discarded.
My RV? Well a tire blowout will cause a couple days work and a $200 in materials at the least. I change them every 6yrs if they need it or not.
Carliles??? I'd never bought them in the first place. Only Micheilin or Coopers on my trailers or vehicles.

Buy UNION work UNION. It pays off in the long run Define Union: A labor Union is nothing more than united workers with a common goal for better working conditions.
We all are in some sort of labor Union, some are just larger than others with better working conditions!
I'm on my 4th set of tires since Feb 2001 when I bought my 5'ver. I put a lot of miles on the tires and had numerous blowouts with "D" rated tires.
I'm on my 2nd set of Denman "E" tires, but the first set was in good shape and I carry one as the mounted spare and one as an unmounted spare. My bro-in-law carries the other 2 as spares. I would not have bought the last set, but I dragged the trailer to Alaska and back, and Salt Lake an back, from Florida, and I just wanted the security of a new set.
My tires get worn out before the sun can damage them, but I keep the 5'ver under a shed to keep the sun off the rubber roof.

Like I thought, sounds like its time to start shopping for tires. I'd seen RV trailer blowout damage and it looked expensive. They've been uncovered but in the shade.
