Sloppy receiver!

Why are the receivers so sloppy? I can understand a little clearance so you dont have to fight to remove the hitch bar but i think its a little too generous.

Re: Sloppy receiver!

I have an 04 Excursion, my receiver is not sloppy/loose at all. Only thing wrong with mine is I used the pin that has bend at one end. This has enlarged the hole somewhat on that side. Went to straight pin, no more problems.

Re: Sloppy receiver!

Had the same problem and went to a local trailer store that sold me the right bar...not sure what class but it's solid steel and fits like a glove. That bar won't fit in other receivers though...it's a hair too big!

Re: Sloppy receiver!

If you mean the ball mount/drawbar rattles around in the receiver, there is a relatively simple fix. Weld a small bead about 3 inches long on each side of the drawbar, then grind the new beads down until you get a snug fit in the receiver. If you are really picky, then make that two beads on each side of the drawbar.

Re: Sloppy receiver!

Try one of these, I am going to order one. I've heard of the welding trick but I also heard that once that weld rusts up that it can make getting the darn thing out pretty difficult. For $22.00 I think I'll try this first. If that doesn't work then maybe I'll fire up the ole welder.

Re: Sloppy receiver!

As for the rusting up thing. Simple fix.

1. get yank strap

2. attach end A of yank strap to trailer ball

3. attach end B of yank strap to something solid (telephone pole)

4. Idle off.

5. Marvel at your newly solved once problem.

Re: Sloppy receiver!

Do what I did and use a 5/8" grade 8 bolt and tighten that sucker down. Also helps prevent someone removing the pin without your knowledge and/or theft.

Alternative to telephone pole. Use mother in law instead.
