Testing Brake Magnets

I am working on getting the trailer brakes working on a trailer with 2 10K Al-Ko axles. The linings and hardware look brand new, I just rewired it all, and the magnets humm when power is applied. I pulled a hub off and set the brake controller to max power and put a piece of metal over the magnet. The magnet weakly draws the metal to itself, and when I try to pull it away, it easily brakes free and does not pull the brake lever at all. Does this mean I need new magnets on the trailer? Anything else to look for?

My first suggestion would be to check the amount of voltage you are drawing..the more voltage the greater the "attraction"...Dexter has a web site that might help you with diagnosis..
