My mom was looking for ideas about what to get me for Christmas. I emailed her a list of 3 things that I'd like to have but could live without. The list included 1. Timbrens 2. Bilsteins 3. Muffler delete pipe.
Today she had me order the Timbrens since they would be helpful when pulling the horse trailer. She couldn't see any useful value in the other items on my list. Of course they're being shipped to her house and I can't have them until Christmas so that I can unwrap them in front of her and act surprised.
So looks like I'll be under the truck the day after Christmas.

For those who have Timbrens...
I was under my truck this evening just looking over the landscape in preparation/anticpation of the installation. Actually I have done this in the past, too, but tonight I noticed something that I hadn't really paid attention to before. Basically, when I install the Timbrens, it looks like they will be coming down on a protrusion from the block under the springs instead of coming down onto the axle. I also noticed for the first time that the block is actually hollow. So is the block going to be stout enough to handle the additional forces put on it by the Timbrens when the LQ horse trailer is on the truck?
The Timbrens were actually ordered on Sunday from Truckspring.com and were delivered to my mom's house today. Now that is some quick shipping!

I installed the timbrens this fall. They work great. Mine also meet on the block extension. Loaded to the hilt, the timbrens kept the truck nice and level. Also very little sway and nearly no lean in corners.
I love them. They took about an hour to install. Put them all together first then install the entire assembly. It can be done with the tires still on.

You know, it just occurred to me during the night that I don't have a stout enough jack to raise my truck and I don't have jackstands to keep it up safely so that I can do this installation. Looks like I got some more shopping to do.

You don't need a jack to install them. I put mine on without lifting the tires or the truck. I pull a 12,000# fifth wheel camper and the truck is just about level when loaded.
When I installed my Timbrens I placed a floor jack under the receiver hitch and raised the truck a couple of inches (NOTE: tires not off of ground). This gave me a little more wiggle room when installing them. You don't have to do this but I found it made my install a little easier even though its super easy to begin with.
As far as the ride unloaded....you wont notice them at all until you are loaded...then you will be thinking why did I wait so long. The only time I feel mine (stiffness) is when going over railroad tracks at a high rate of speed (which I shouldn't be doing to begin with) or hitting speed bumps. Other than that you don't even know they are back there when you are unloaded. There should be a couple of inches between the timbren's and the 'stop' they rest on when you are unloaded. If they are sitting on the 'stop' when you are unloaded they are the wrong ones for your truck or you have installed them wrong.

for u guys with the timbrens how is the ride unloaded any difference?
[/ QUOTE ]
nope - not unless you get on a road with dips in them - you might feel a change in spring weight when you hit them - but since they are not in contact empty - you get a regular ride.
BTW - after seeing my friends truck compared to mine with the same horse trailer hooked - I highly recommend them....

Thanks for the tip. I do have a small 2-ton floor jack that should be able to handle this much. I'll try the install without the extra wiggle room, but will try your trick if I need a little more room.

I put mine on without a jack.... They went in no problem....

I guess it's not so much whether the timbrens will fit or not. I'm sort of a big ol' boy so I might need the extra room.
Nah, I'm not really THAT big. I do appreciate everyone's input!

Having room depends on how much the back of your truck weights already. The rear springs on my wrecker were in sad shape, so the truck had to come up to fit the Timbrens in. In fact, it rides on the Timbrens all the time. Of course the truck also weighs 9,300# empty.
For a regular pickup truck, you can probably slide them right in with no problem. You are supposed to have some air space between the Timbrens and the axle when the truck is unloaded so you don't get a harsh ride empty.

I have about 1000 lbs. in the back of my truck everyday with the rack and toolboxes filled without anything extra. This weight seems to level out the truck. Does anyone think this will be an issue when I go to install the Timberens? Maybe a little lift with a jack at the hitch?
