The trailer/hitch place I went to today told me that, if I got a triple axle trailer, I would not be able to use the TowCommand brake controller with it. They said it can't handle the load of 3 axles worth of brakes, and that I would have to have an aftermarket controller installed to tow a triple axle trailer.
Anybody know if that's really true?

In my 2006 Owner's Guide, page 159, it says, "The Ford TBS has only been verified to be compatible with trailers have electric-actuated drum brakes (one to four axles)..."
I appreciate the response, but I'm not really asking about what Ford claims. I'm asking about real world, does this thing work? The guy at the tow/hitch place (where I've been going for years and they have always been very professional and honest) says not. It wouldn't be the first time time Ford reality didn't live up to Ford specs.
Which is why I'm asking here...
Anybody used their TC brake controller with 3 or 4 axles and verified that it works okay, even at max gain?

I pull my 16,000lb triple axle toyhauler at least twice a month, 500 miles at a time.
The brake controller works just fine with my trailer.
I would find another hitch place, they sound like they don't have a clue.... or want to sell you more stuff.

isn't the 'TowCommand working correctly' just a function of the amount of current in can send to the various brakes?
What is involved that would be different from two axles to three axles other then just a bigger draw on current?
(Maybe big bad ford got this one right and the uhaul guy was wrong?)

Hehehe, that's funny. But I definitely agree, the Ford TBC is absolutely the best option they could have ever put in a truck, it works perfectly, every time for me. I tow a Raptor 3712TS (triple axle), and my Big Tex 18GN (triple axle) and it works great.
The only limitation I've heard about the Ford controller is that it will not work with electric over hydraulic brakes (and neither will the prodigy). If you going with hydraulic brakes, you need a Voyager or similar type controller.
Well, a little off topic, but one good thing about the Two Command is the system monitoring.
I had just hooked to the trailer, and about a block from the interstate on ramp, I heard ths chime from the dash-display read "trailer disconnected". So I got out, and sure enough, the plug was 1/2 out-so I snapped it back in and the display went back to normal.
Glad I didn't have to find that out the old fashioned way at speed...and it works with a 44ft triple axle enclosed no prob.

I've got an '08 F450 and electric over hydraulic brakes on my 37 foot tri axle 5th wheel and I am having problems with the ford controller. Will hadrly stop the trailer. Looking for a fix. From what I've read, you can not install an after-market controller on the '08 Fords if it came with the oem controller.
On my early 05 I had to disconnect my last axle brakes because the controller won't work right. With it disconnected I have both front axles connected and stops just fine. I beleive this was a problem with the 05's and has been fixed since. I allmost went with an after market controller untill I disconnected the rear axle.
