Contemplating buying a set of 14x22 8x170 rims. I know ALL about the offsets, wheel bearings and what not. My question is do they have load ratings? I haul a 26' aluminum gooseneck livestock trailer from time to time and don't want to be limited in weight. Appreciate any input. '05 CCSW
Wheels do have load ratings just like tires. The load rating varies widely as some tires made for odd size wheels may be the much lower load rated tires and fall far short of being capable of towing without overheat and blow out.
There often has to be a decision made when doing mods of whether you want it to look good, go really fast, or tow something heavy.
Thanks for the info. Just wasn't sure on the rims with them being a -76 offset. Trailer weight (gooseneck) and hauling 8-10k #s of cattle. Tires are load E so no probs there. Thanks again
Double check all the ratings.
I own 4 different SD trucks. All have different set ups ( look in my sig for all but one of my trucks )
I tow and own some serious trailers and load them quite well at times . Each truck is set up to due it's max job and then some.
That being said, the tires and wheels are also maxed out per truck.
My 02 Lifted ( 6 inch ) F350 CCLB ( not in my sig ) has 20 x 10 Centerline Aluminum wheels with 36" E load range tires. Look closely beyond the E ratting. E rated tires can due range from 2950 - 3750 Lbs...... Mine - 3750 @ 65 psi...
Wise words! And as Jimmy said, wheels do have weight ratings. And it pays to double check. Shortly after I bought my truck new I ordered chrome wheels from a tire shop. Before I could even say what I wanted the loud-mouth know-it-all said he knew just what I needed. They came in, I looked and they were nowhere near the rating I needed.
