First of all I would like to say this is a great site, hey all,.I am lookin to haul my backhoe with a f350 4x4 supercab 6.0 do any of you have any suggestions if to rag on me please don,t. thanks
I've towed a backhoe with my F250 without any issues. Just make sure you use caution as with any heavy load and give yourself plenty of room to stop. I'm assuming your trailer has brakes.

How big is the backhoe? I've seen folks towing Kubota backhoes with a 1/2 ton with no problems, but I've also seen a 1-ton dually in the ditch with too large a load.

We need alot more info; backhoe size, trailer size and type, distance traveled, flat or mountain drive.
I've pulled my Kubota M5400 w/ loader and backhoe attatchment. However I wouldn't consider towing my JD 310sg. My kubota and trailer weigh in at about 12,500. The JD 310sg is around 17,000 lbs. not including the trailer.
There is a guy in this forum who posted a picture of his dad's f-350 SRW pulling a 310 JD on a Goose Neck trailer. The 310 is a few thousand lbs. less than the JD 310 sg
On edit: Found some Pics
First one is me pulling a 9,800 lb. scissor lift
Second is some random guy pulling a JD
Third another random pic of guy pulling a 310
Sorry I wasn,t clear on the equipment it is a gooseneck float that has 2 10 000 lbs axles brakes on both axles the backhoe is a 2006 case 580 super m series 2.It will be used mostly when I work out of town or anyplace that is to far to drive the backhoe.I think it will do it guys use duramaxes around here and they are only 2500 series trucks.
I think you'll want to seriously think about that:
1) A case 580 super M weighs, according to Case, 17,500#
Your gooseneck has a gross weight rating of 20,000 if it has two 10K axles. Unless your trailer weighs less than 2,500 pounds (very unlikely) you'll be over-gross on the trailer weight rating for the trailer.
2) Even assuming your trailer is 2,500 pounds and you're right at the limit of the trailer at 20,000 pounds, you'll be way over the gross combined vehicle weight limit of 23,000 pounds.
Of course, others will probably chime in and say they do it all the time. Here in Washington State, the state patrol will be happy to write you a $400 ticket for being overweight, assuming you only get pulled over (rather than being involved in an accident).

No apology needed. I added some pics to my prior post, check em out. If I am not mistaken The JD 310sg and the 580 super m are close in size. Me with a standard trailer would not do the job, but it sounds like you have the right equipment to pull it.
I too will tram my Backhoes all over town before I tow them. However on the longer trips when I cant drive them from job to job. I hire a semi to move the JD. It is expensive but I don't have an adequate trailer to move it my self. I usually will pull the Kubota w/ my F-650 with the cat engine. I wish I had a better towing truck than the F-650 dump. The truck is extremely heavy and under powered.
But it sounds like you have the right equipment.
If you check my pics link in my signature you can check out my JD and Dump.

I agree w/ AGIT8OR, your capable of doing it but do you want to risk it. When you exceed GCVW you are really sticking your neck out, not only with DOT but also with regaurds to liability. If you hit some one or have an accident with an overloaded setup a lawyer will drag you through the mud. And insurance could also be an issue as far as coverage is concerned in the event of an accident.

That third pic above with the White F-250 is our rig. With that being said it is perfectly legal in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and has been on Dot scales in all three with similar loads. DOT doesn't care about Manufactures GCVW. They check GVRW, GAWR and registered weight for the truck and trailer, oh and the driver needs a CDL since it groses at about 31K. We've never had any problems after they've scaled it. By the way the trailer has 2 12K axles and a GVWR of 30K.

If the axles are good for 20,000 then the trailer should be good for more than that as there would be 2 to 3 thousand pounds on the neck so he may be over CGVW but not over trailer or truck gross depending on how the load sits.

Not necessarily. Not all trailers are rated this way, you never know what the limiting factors are. Could be the axles, could be the frame or the pin box. My 24ft H&H enclosed trailer had 5K axles on it and was rated at 9950 lbs gvrw.

I agree, was only making the point that a trailers rated gross is not just a function of axle rating, you are right it may be more or less. We would need to know the manufacturers spec for his trailer and what he has it licensed for.
