Towing cap.

mine is a '87 f-350 XLT Lariet Supercrew Cab, 10' longbed 2w dr, with the 6.9 in it. can anyone tell me my hauling limits in this truck, stock, no mods or brake additions such as a booster or anything. I am just trying to get an idea of what I can move safely in this truck, thanks

I'd like to see a photo of your 10' bed? Must be a chassis cab. Your GCWR is probably 20k at the absolute max. With the 6.9 it has to be lower than that. If you know your GVWR and you know how much your truck weighs and what the tire and axle ratings are you are equipped to figure the rest of it out.

NEW (to me) 2005 F350 FX4 Crewcab shortbed, SRW, Lariat, auto, V10. 5600 lbs front end.

Rear end gears will affect the tow rating from Ford. Manual tranny is also rated lower than an automatic.

GCWR on my 95 F250 7.3 stroke with ZF 5 speed and 3.55 gears is 14,500 lbs
With an automatic it would be 16,000 lbs.
With 4.10 gears and a manual tranny it would be 17,000 lbs.
With 4.10 gears and an auto it would be 20,000 lbs.

You need to find the diesel supplement to the Owner's Guide for your truck. The diesel supplement should include the GCWR for your truck. Once you know the GCWR, then subtract the weight of the wet and loaded truck without the trailer and the answer will be the max weight of any trailer you can tow without exceeding the GCWR of your tow vehicle. My guess would be 12,000 to 16,000 pounds GCWR, depending on rear axle ratio, transmission, 4x4 or 4x2, and engine.

the 10' bed is a stock upfitter option you could buy through the dealer its called the construction bed designed to haul 10 ft lumber with tailgate up and up to 16' with tailgate down safely
you should have a 10k axle in the rear i think so
but heres my runle of thumb if you have proper trailer brakes you can haul any trailer with 2000 lbs of hitch weight
so thats 20k gn
10k bumper
iirc gn is 10% hitch weight and bp is 20% correct my math if its bad

Other way around, bumper pull 8-15% with 10% being about ideal, goose or fifth wheel 20% or so.

ok i thout so just wasnt sure long time since i had to remember that but if you figure it out those will work
remember that the bp will be reduced by about 50% because to leverage on the rear end
