Hey All, I have posted a similar question on the upgrades for OBD page, but since this is the towing page, maybe experiences here will be shared too. I have a 97 F-250 auto, 4in catback, dead cat, gutted ebpv, open intake and WIldman 4 position chip with 4.10 gears. I live in Colorado Springs, so when I tow my 6000lb 5'ver up in the mountains, it seems like I spend most of my time watching my egt's and not my speedo. Even on the 40hp setting, I gotta watch religiously. I see 1250 pretty quick and about 20lbs boost when accelerating. What do any of you with similar stuff see on your rig? All the help and advice I get would be very reassuring or helpful finding a trouble spot. Thanks in advance.

I live in Canon City, CO and have the same situation. If I get much above 35 mph pulling some of these mountain grades, the EGT is at 1200 before I know it. I guess I could downshift to go a little faster, but I'm usually not in that much of a hurry. Maybe it's the altitude.

What RPMs are you turning? My lash-up is 19.5K, and pulling the mountains in OR and Northern NV, I have no EGT problems. I get into 5th gear (direst drive) 2400 RPM and 20in boost egts 1100*,pre-turbo. Speed 55mph. IMHO get the rpm up and the egt will go down.

Think your sig said you have a y2k, right? That'd give you what he probably needs, the innercooler. If I recall, thats what the OBS board popular opinion was to help. But you are correct, keep the RPM's up, that'll help.

gutless wonder, I want my 94 back!!!
PickSty, I am sorry you have the egt problems too, but it is nice to see that someone else has similar trouble here in Colorado. I believe that the altitude is not helping us. No air, no cooling effect. I will be looking out for an innercooler, if someone knows a cheap place to get one that would be cool. I just wanted to know if my before CAC install temps were normal, so if I had a problems it could be fixed, and not patched with an innercooler. Thanks to all who responded. This is why I love TDS. I have a similar problem towing my 5er. I have a 97 cali split shot, and going up 6-7% I drive by egt. With current mods I can pull about 45 mph up 6-7%. Pre-exhaust it was 35mph!!! I use a scmt in tow safe cause stock was painfully s_l_o_w! My 5er weighs in between 10K and 11K, but is tall and pushes some air. Talk to Dale at tymar - just make sure you have a 1/2 hour or so to spare. You will get some good info.
Enjoy!

Busbreath, I do have to watch the hills, and some of them at very long 7% grades here in CO at 7000 to 11000 feet in the no-air. I am looking for an innercooler that will not break the bank, as the wife recently left the PowerStroke and Me. I can handle that, the truck leaving would make me very sad!!!! Just more time on the water and in the woods with the Dog. Colin

Hey Guys, I happen to have my truck in the local awsome diesel shop today, and they told me they would hand on the next stock i/c they pull off for an aftermarket, and cost to me...... 100.00 if they do the install. Get this, they said they would do the install for 500.00 if I ge the tube and bracket kit for them. This is no slop shop either, all the 5 mechanics are all Master Mechanics. I just do not think I can beat that. Come on paycheck, Daddy needs an innercooler for 1100.00 bucks. Colin in Colorado
