This question belongs in the '94-'97 forum, where you put it. The moderator that moved it here made an error in judgement.
The HP peak for your stock engine is 3,000 RPM. You should
NEVER exceed 3,000 RPM. All you're doing above 3,000 RPM is thrashing the oil. So slow down to 3,000 RPM and enjoy the ride.
Yeah, I know. The red line for your engine is about 3,200 to 3,300 RPM. But the answer still applies. Keep it below 3,000 RPM and you'll enjoy your tow vehicle more. I suspect your engine was "cutting out" because you were too near the red line, and the computer was "idiot proofing" your engine by not allowing too much RPM. But I'm not an expert on your older PSD, so hopefully some of the OBS guys will respond.
