Trailer axles: Dexter vs Off Brand

I need two new 3500lb axle for my trailer. My two choices are:

1) Off brand: $220 per
3500 lb axle, ezlube spindles, 10x3 electric brakes, springs included

2) Dexter: $240 per
3500 lb Axle only with brakes
+ additional $30-$40 per spring so around $320 for comparable setup

Is Dexter worth the extra money?

Re: Trailer axles: Dexter vs Off Brand

Well i've been told that the off brand (Axis) actually makes axles for Dexter. I dont know the truth behind it but they are only 11 minutes from each other.

Re: Trailer axles: Dexter vs Off Brand

I would reseach the other brand a little bit more before I bought them. They may be cutting corners somewhere to be able to sell them that much cheaper.
I have had Dexter on two TT and have never had a problem with them so I reckon that would weigh in their favor, at least with me!!!

Re: Trailer axles: Dexter vs Off Brand

Hi xj,

I like the Dexter axles and really like them as there now forward self adjusting

Also consider using 4400# or 5000# axles, about $20 more, as then you can use 16" LT tires that's easy to find good tires and stay away from the 15" hard to find good tires.

The lighest steel wheel is a 16" 6/5.5" or 6/6, rated 3040#, about $80. When you hit 5000# plus then it's 16" 8/6 or?

I just bought a 5'er and the first thing I did was buy new 16" wheels & tires.

Buy UNION work UNION. It pays off in the long run
Define Union:
A labor Union is nothing more than united workers with a common goal for better working conditions.

We all are in some sort of labor Union, some are just larger than others with better working conditions!
