Trailer Brake problems

Ok, Tow rig is a early 99 PSD 350. We can hook it up to any of the other trailers and it works fine. We try and hook it up to the gooseneck and all the lights seem to work fine, it the brakes that will not work. I have trird hooking up to a hot wire to activate them and still no luck. The whole wiring system has been butchered and I need some help. Where would you guys start?

Sounds like the plug on the trailer in question is not wired correctly.

Ok, so Now I have it all working correctally except that the brakes wont come on when you hit the peddle. Only when you hit the bod slide with your hand. Where does the 12v constant need to end up going to? Who ever did this trailer really messed some things up. My green, yellow and brown are all my lights and signals. My red is the brakes, white is 12v hot, and black is ground. White just ends about mid way through the trailer, so my question is, where does it need to go to?

air--i aint in the shop--but your colors for the brakes aint right--someone at a ford store can tell you the right color code--and if the trailer wiring is that messed up---id redo it all---so you know what you have--and use at least 12 gauge back to the brakes--and 10 if its triple axle---and a thru ground wire also--of sufficent gauge

I ended up getting everything working except...The brakes don't work with the peddle. Only using the slide on the controller. I am going to rewire the trailer tomorrow. I am fairly certain the truck wiring is correct, because it works with all the other trailers in the yard. Any other info is always helpful! Thanks

Trailer Brake Problem

Your trailer brakes are not being activated by the pedal because the wiring from your brake light switch is not connected to the trailer brake controller.
The controller works like a swinging pendulum that will apply the trailer brakes every time it senses force(movement). The controller only sends a signal to the trailer if A. Manually controlled by the slide, or B. Activation of the pendulum ALONG with a signal that the brakes are being activated by your foot on the pedal turning on your brake lights -that activates the controller. If the brake light switch is not connected, it doesn't "know" that brakes are needed. I hope that explains it. Not sure on your wire codes, but a quick Google search for model year, etc. will probably tell.

I have got them to work with out CTD dodge now, the ford is the problem. This is really starting to get annoying. From the link posted above I have done everytihng right. However, when I have it connected in that fashion is does not want to work. If anyone has a complete schematic on wiring that would be great. Ill explain a bit more.

It is a 25ft goose, made by circle d. Brakes on both axles. Standard dexter axles. From what I am understanding the brakes need to be connected to the blue wire and then the other wire needs to be grounded. Brown, yellow and green are stop, tail, turn. White should be a ground. And then there is a 12v supply that does nothing? What am i missing here? I tried hooking it up to two different trucks in this configuration and it still doesnt work?

Also, the dodge has the Tek primus controler, is this box one that knows how hard to brake?

Thanx,

Mike

Are you plugging the trailer directly into the truck socket or using an adaptor
from 6 pin to 7 blade RV?
