Trailer brake squeel.....I need some advice

My brakes squeal like no tomorrow. It has to stop. I can't take it any more.

If I turn them up it is less but is still there. I pulled the drums and found nothing missing. Adjusted the brakes and the bearings are torqued properly. Lug nuts are torqued properly.

Please help....

Re: Trailer brake squeel.....I need some advice

lube the contact points on backing plates where shoes ride. Sometimes it is overheated shoes that will make noise regardless of what you do until you replace them. The first step and the most likely to fix this is the lubing of acking plates.

IS there any noise when wheels roll with no brakes applies?
Magnets can be a cause but usually they are squealers when there is no current applied to pull them against drum face.

Re: Trailer brake squeel.....I need some advice

No noise when rolling unless the brakes are applied. I will try the lube and maybe new shoes.

Update: Well, I took it to a local shop to have them pulled. I don't know much about trailer brakes. The owner took the drums off and showed me the damage. The bearing seals leaked into the brakes. The shoes were cracked and the magnets were down to the bottom of the wear marks. There was also one shackle that was almost wore through. That would have hurt to have that brake on a trip.

Re: Trailer brake squeel.....I need some advice

Out of curiousity, how old is the trailer?

My year old trailer squeaks during braking too. I may have to pull the drums to check things out. It has always made noise. It usually goes away when the shoes warm up.

Re: Trailer brake squeel.....I need some advice

I bought it new in May 04'. If it squeals, check it out fast. No that I know what can happen, I won't let it get past me again.
