Thanks,

here's a link for the trailer connector;
Trailer Wiring Diagram For 4 way, 6 way and 7 way circuits

I think what you mean by "relay" you mean a circuit breaker. I would put it anywhere before the truck side of the connector. Your truck may have no power to the plug until the key is on.

the relay or circuit breaker I am talking about is the one I hear Ford supplies in the glove box that the owner has to put in them selves under the hood.
I bought my truck used and want to make sure its installed.

If you want to be SURE that is installed then I would think the only way at this point is to backtrace the wire harness starting at the plug and work your way towards the cab. I bought mine used from a private party and had to change the 6 pin to a 7 pin. I didn't bother to look for a circuit breaker/relay as I only had power to plug with key on, meaning if I left the trailer plugged in to the truck while parked it wouldn't drain the truck batteries..that was good enough for me.

If you look under the hood in the power disribution box (by the brake booster), there should be no empty relay positions. Have you looked in your operator's manual?
My manual shows a relay and a fuse for the trailer battery charge.

Also what kind (number of pins)of trailer connector do you have?

I found the problem. There was a blown 20amp fuse for the trailer charge under the steering wheel. Replaced that and tested the voltage and all is good. Now I will see how long it lasts.
