Trailer feels like it is moving on my gooseneck ball when I make a sudden stop

I have a 20 ft gooseneck stock trailer that I believe may have a trouble with the coupler. The pin has never gone in the coupler correctly but it does go in,.I have a B&W turnover ball and when I stop it feels like the trailer slides forward on the ball. When I take off, it slides back. I dont think my turnover ball is moving or the mounting hardware itself.

I pull this trailer with 2 trucks. On my truck it slides and acts like it is coming off (turnover ball). On the work truck with a regular ball the trailer fits on the coupler different and doesnt move but I noticed the ball now looks bent. What do I do to fix this? It is scary as hell when this happens.

Sounds like something is wore out?

How old is the coupler? Balls on the trucks?

I don't get it. You are talking a gooseneck, right? How does it feel like it is moving? I mean where is it going to move to. It is a ball to coupler attachment.

I dont get it either but something is moving. The turnover ball is a year old. The ball is moving forward and when you begin driving again it slides back. I took my turnover ball out tonight and tried to lock the ball up in the coupler to check for slipping but nothing happened. I think something with the coupler must be bad. The holes to put the pen in the coupler have never lined up right. I tried to bend them and I was successful where I can get the pin in the coupler now but I now have this sliding bs going on that feels like the trailer is going to come thru the cab. The trailer is 4 years old and has little use.

what kind of coupler on your gooseneck?

Is it the kind where you drop the goosenck down (from above) onto the ball, then latch with the plate across the narrow neck of the ball? Or, is it the type where you back the ball into a clasping unit, then pin the clasp across the front? You are right in wondering, there should be no slop!! I know that running a ball without grease for a long time will wear out the ball, my neigbor managed to do it once a few years back! Also, it seems unlikely but could it be that the ball is not the correct size? Standard is 2 5/16". Just some thoughts. Best luck, and Merry Christmas! Tom

Could it be your trailer brakes jerking and making it feel like it is moving? For grins unplug it and try it. I have a BnW hitch and there is nothing that could be loose, mine is so tight I usually have to beat it out from under the truck if I want to flip it over.

Well it doesn't make since that the coupler is "loose" either. Unless half of your bolts are missing and the other half are loose then it isn't your B/W hitch. I also cant imagine the trauiler side being loose or worn to the point of being sloppy.
I'm sure I could not even lock the hitch on my 24' stock trailer and even unloaded the tongue weight would be enough to keep it from ever moving or popping off unless I got into an accident.

I don't see how your turnover could be moving unless your truck bed is also moving. Look close at the bed of your truck. It should show damage if B&W turnover ball is moving. Goodluck, Greg

I think the same thing. No damage to the bed of my truck. I think the way the ball is bent on the other truck is evidence something is moving. How did the ball on the other truck get bent. It had to have be done by the trailer moving on it while hooked up. My turnover ball is a lot sturdier setup, I don't think it can bend it.

Need pics, of both balls and the coupler. There's really no way that the ball can get bent by anything moving or a bad coupler, unless it's just too light of a mount. And there's no place for it to move to, unless the coupler is one of those autolock ones and it's only halfway engaged.
