trailer wiring fault warning on 08 superduty

First issue I have had with my truck. I am getting a warning light saying there is a "wiring fault on trailer" Only problem is trailer is not attached. Happens every time I hit the brake. When the Trailer is actually hooked up everything works just fine....Any thoughts?

Check the trailer anyway, but be trying to make a bluetooth connection. LOL

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Re: trailer wiring fault warning on 08 superduty

If it only comes on when not towing--friend of mine with an '06 got it to stop by hitting the 'reset' button while it was displayed.
Otherwise, take it to Ford, its warranty work since a trailer is not involved. If it acts up with the trailer, Ford seems to always think
"its the trailer, dummy"--not the truck.

Larry: We had the same problem. After driving our 2008 Super Duty, with our Fifth-wheel hookup working for a year, the warning came on. We went to Ford...They said: after not even looking at the trailer plug: The connections for your 5th wheel hookup are wrong. They HAVE to be soldered together, not crimp and shrink-wrapped. So we went back to the place that wired the 5th wheel. They pulled the connections. They were perfect. No wet connections, no dirt even on the connections. We do not drive the truck in the winter at all. They did re-do them, the light still went on. They finally cut the wires totally. They pulled the Ford plug out, found out the original trailer plug (from FORD) was CORRODED. Went back to Ford and they did replace the plug, but did not re-wire anything. We had to go back to the RV place, they soldered the connections, this time, however, we have called about 5 shops and NONE of them solder the connections. FORD said THEY MUST BE SOLDERED. That they received a service bulletin on it about a year ago, however, they can't supply us with a copy of the bulletin. When I called another Ford dealer, I was told it was "a matter of preference." So...there you have it. When the warning came on, we weren't towing either...makes no sense to us. Now we don't know who is going to pay the RV place for all their wiring and re-wiring. Probably us, but I'm hoping FORD! If they had checked the plug in the first place, a lot of work could have been saved. Pull the back off your Ford plug out and check to see if it is green!

This is a known problem at Ford.

Message center displaying "Wiring Fault On Trailer":
This may occur due to water intrusion/corrosion in the trailer connector socket or the connector behind the socket. If corrosion is present, replace the socket and harness and lube with silicone dielectric grease. If there are no signs of water, perform normal diagnosis. Broadcast Message 7052, 7108.

As soon as I got my truck, I pulled the wiring just to check. It was fine and there was a little bit of dielectric in there. I loaded it up. No water gonna get in there now.
