Check out this picture. This is from Holland. Triple axle, low to the ground, single car hauler. Take note of the SUV,it looks as if that third axle is taking up a lot of the tongue weight. Why don't we build them like that here? BTW the car is a 31 Cadillac. http://photos.thedieselstop.com/show...hp?photo=26590

We do build them with 3 axles here but normally they are a HD trailer and for small heavy equipment.
For a car they are no good. A decent length 3 axle trailer sucks to turn. A short one would be really bad. Imagin what it would do to the tires.

Can you imagine them itty bitty tiny little tires running 70+ MPH. Not on the back of anything I own, no way. I would be just willing to bet in Holland they have tiny narrow roads with low bridges, and they are concerned with turning radius and bridge heights. Just a guess on my part.
I would also bet with the slight beaver tail, short ramp and high departure angle. I am gonna guess thats a tilt trailer as well.

1 foot diameter tire at 70 mi/hr = 1900 rev/minute.
Not exactly scary-fast. The tread speed is still 70 mi/hr, no matter what the diameter, and they're only carrying a thousand pounds per tire.
Assuming they're highway-rated tires, not wheelbarrow tires, it seems not only completely reasonable but a very good design which brings the center of gravity a foot closer to the pavement.

They look like they'd be the same or bigger diameter than the 13" tire that come on Ford Festivas, Chevy Aveo, as well as some travel trailers. If you want little tires, look at some of the pop up campers. They seem to run 70 mph with no problem.
If you really want low tongue weight, they should make trailers like this again. I think they went out of style in the late seventies though.
Looks like the tires that are on pontoon boat trailers. They are $100 a piece but will handle alot of weight.
Triple axle trailer are really hard on spindles when turning tight.
Neat picture though, Europe is a very cool place to be....except for the rendered pork fat spread on toast...that is like having a tongue full of axle grease.

They look like a pretty similar size to about every snowmobile trailer I've ever seen, and they seem to hold up fine. I'm betting you're right, though, they must have a narrower max width than we do, I can't see any advantage at all to that setup other than that.
