I'm going camping in September and I've been asked to pull everything sense I have the "STROKER". I pull a 24' travel trailer when I take the family camping but this is what I have to pull this time.
27' travel trailer w/ equalizer hitch
12' 3 place 4 wheeler trailer
and a 4wheeler in the back of my truck.
What precautions should I make before attempting such a feet. Any suggestions would be great.
I dont know if I would like that or not. I may be wrong but it seems like MOST times I have seen a double pull it is with a 5er...Dont know how good a tagalong will pull double. BE CAREFULL is all I can say.
Does the 12' trailer have brakes? How are the brakes on your TT? Hitch on the TT and your truck in EXCELLENT condition?
I have no real advice to offer sorry,, just some common sense type suggestions like above!
Go over everything good!

Illegal to pull a trailer behind a bumper pull travel trailer in Georgia. You must have a 5th wheel to do this. You might want to check the laws where you are and where you are traveling through to make sure.
Be safe.

When's the last time that you check that? I think that you will find that even with a 5th wheel it's not legal in GA.

Just remember not to get yourself anywheres that would require you to back up, until you've removed the 12' trailer. Also, I would make sure all the wiring for the trailer lights is in good condition.
With the weight in that second trailer, though, it may cause you to buck when you hit dips in the road, since the equalizer hitch is only going to affect the truck and the first trailer.
Its kind of a double edge sword...putting more weight in the second trailer in front of the wheels will cause the back of the first trailer to be weighted, which will have a tendency to lift the front of the trailer a tad. But putting more weight behind the axle in the second trailer can cause some major fish tailing. Unless you could get your hands on a tandem axle trailer to haul the 4-wheelers in.
Just thinking out loud. I'm not sure I'd want to try it, especially if I was going through mountain passes and such. Be sure and report back how the trip went.

Rent a second truck. This is IMHO a very stupid idea and I would be surprised if any highway pigs let you get away with it. I'm 99% certain you have to be DOT certified to pull two trailers.
I also think to do it right your trailer needs to be a fith wheel. I would give the Highway patrol a call and see what they say. Most you will have to do is make somebody else pull the atv's. You could also pm Utah. He is a member here and showes up every now and then. He is also a Utah Highway Patrol man.

Oop's... missed that part. Yup here in MI the first trailer has to be a 5th wheel. Check your local state laws about pulling doubles. Other then that, the truck is capable if the driver is.

You cannot pull "doubles" in Oregon. In CA, the 1st trailer MUST be a fith wheel, and there are length limitions to overall length (70' IIRC).
YOU NEED TO CHECK WITH UTAH DOT BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS, and if you are headed out of state, you need to check with each state you are planning on going through.
I, personally would never consider a tag / tag tow.

The limit for Utah is 65' (70' in Co) bumper to bumper (or it was last year when I checked.) I could not find anything that limits the type of hitch if you want to pull doubles in Utah or Colorado. I also live just off of Highway 40 in Heber Ut, on the way to many vacation spots. On friday night you'll see all sorts of trailer combo's going down the road. At least in front of my house nobody is checking the length limit. I've seen a bunch of bumper pull campers towing "big" (tandum axels) boat trailers that were much longer then my double rig which is 64'10". It would be a good idea to call and verify the laws but if your equipment is in good shape and you're a capable driver I don't think you'll have any problems
I don't believe you can legally pull that set up. In Michigan you can pull another trailer only behind a 5th wheel and it requires a "Recreational Double" endorsement on you driver's license.

Here's what I found out when I called the UHP and then they transfered me over to the Utah port of Enrty. They said it doesn't have to be a 5th wheel trailer in order to pull another trailer behind it. He also said that from the tongue of the first trailer to the end of the last trailer it can't be longer than 70' or you have to get a permit.
Thats great, have a safe trip. I think I'm going to call again myself. When the lengths you quoted sound right but I'm sure the POE guy told me the measurment was from the front of the truck to the end of the trailer. Not the front of the hitch. Prehaps they changed the rules or prehaps I just got someone that wanted to get rid of me quickly
