trouble codes & exhaust brake

diy exhaust brake works well on '02 f350, but ses is triggered...dtc from odo shows d027 and d262, all systems seem to work okay...any thoughts?

Re: trouble codes & exhaust brake

You need to get the codes that are stored in the PCM. The odo trick won't do that. Those codes don't mean anything in relation to the SES light.

Re: trouble codes & exhaust brake

thanx for the info, i didn't realize the odo codes were no good!! cel has extinguished itself, stll no problems...while i was testing the ebpv brake, i put a load against it with brake engaged...i figure i probably induced a high back-pressure sensor to trip...my bad!! all is well...

Re: trouble codes & exhaust brake

Its not uncommon to get a SES light when using an exhaust brake. When you say its a DIY I'm guessing you're using the factory warmup valve. I also (had) an '02 with such a system and it would usually, but not always, turn the light on. After several starts and stops without using the brake the light will go out. I just learned to ignore it- as long as I knew it was from brake usage. Perry

Re: trouble codes & exhaust brake

I assume that you are using the Exhaust Backpressure warm up value? I have mine disabled and would like to use it as an exhaust brake. Does it work well for you? I was thinking that I would buy the product from spdiesel.com to keep the sensor happy.

Re: trouble codes & exhaust brake

I have an exhaust brake made by Western Diesel I installed in June 2001. I pull in the mountains every summer and it works great. To be effective you need to either buy one that locks the torque convertor or wire a TC lockup switch like I did. I don't think Western Diesel is around anymore. I forgot to mention this brake uses the EBPV.

Re: trouble codes & exhaust brake

observations: with auto tranny, my tc stays locked ok for brake to work in effective range (2k-3k rpm), efficiency drops off at lower r's. cel does reset after a few non-uses..odo trick: hold odo reset button in while inserting key, turn key on, odo will soon begin display of various functions (do a search)...I only use this brake on 6% or greater grades with 10-12k 5th, works great to hold speed without constant brake applications...od off, brake on, nice easy descent... would do it again in a heartbeat! oh, yeah, truck warms up quicker when engaged...
