That surly could be the cause BUT check out that fan clutch also. Taking the transmission out of OD is a good way to keep the tranny cooler by moving fluid through the cooler and the tranny faster. It also keeps the EGTs down and radiator cooler. I would also suggest a change of location in the sensor for the EGT gauge. Pre-turbo is much better for accuracy. I would also look at lower gears for the diff also.

When the engine is hot I can turn the truck off and the fan stops on a dime. I think the fan/clutch is working.

Since I'll probably turn over 253,000 this week, re-gearing probably won't happen! Unless I shred the rearend. That would be a great excuse!

Whats this? Can you describe it?

I use a winter grill guard/cover that has a summer screen. Had to be installed with snaps drilled/screwed into plastic/chrome grill.
I just used a piece of window screen and cut it to fit the front of the radiator. This works great to keep everything clean.
