They're so long and involved with many pics it would be about impossible to Email. I've seen the big blowup pics of the system posted on one of the IDI forums and I think one of the guys has them on his "how to" site. If you don't find them on the factory sites, you might ask over there. The Banks and ATS are similar enough, the info from either would give you a good idea about both.
I just talked to a guy from ATS and a guy from Banks, it would cost me $2,178 for an ATS system and $3800 for a banks system. Why is there such a drastic difference in cost? Does it have to do with the muffler system?
Thanks again,
Steve

Doesn't suprise me. I researched both systems to death before I chose the ATS. I talked to the "expert" Banks reps numerous times and the time was most spent insulting and bad-mouthing the other two competing brands by the sales staff so rather than quote their various claims, etc, and getting my post deleted, I won't go into it. When I said I heard that Ford was going with ATS from the factory in '94, the reasons they told me why that was happening rather than chosing Banks was a real knee-slapper.
The ATS kit does not include a pyrometer or boost gauge, but I think Banks does. They can both be bought and added later from any truck parts house, even Napa.
The new wastegated ATS kit had just come out when I installed mine and I ended up talking to the owner of ATS (at that time) by phone a couple times and he was really informative and helpful in regards to how they engineered their latest system, how they arrived at the the ideal boost PSI, etc. The ATS exhaust is 3" with a straight-thru muffler, I think Banks is the same unless you order their Monster Exhaust which I guess is 4".
You got me curious and I just dug around, found my reciept. I was wrong, I paid $2700 for the complete kit at an Oregon truck shop way back in around '93. He had priced out the exhaust separately is why the under $2500 figure stuck in my mind. There's not quite the demand now like then so maybe that's why they're going for $2100, but make sure that includes the complete 3" exhaust.

Does the sound of the truck change when you put a turbo charger on it?
With the straight through muffler you get just a touch more throaty exhaust, not loud by any means, the turbo vans have an muffling effect. You also get a slight turbo whine out the exhaust under a light throttle around 1200-1800 RPM. However, if you're coming down a grade and stay in about the 2500RPM range with a load behind you, that baby REALLY raps all the way down like a big truck Jake Brake before all the noise restrictions.

What's a pyrometer do?
The guy at ATS said that it doesn't come with an exhaust system - it comes with a down pipe that hooks up to our muffler system.
What should I do?
EDIT: I just talked to the guy from ATS and he said it would be an extra $374 for the exhaust system bringing the grand damage to $2,468.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Steve

pyro tells how hot the exhaust is---which you need, and dont push the temps over 1200. less you want melted pistons----and yes--you want the exhaust upgrade---as that amount is quite a bit less than if you buy it later!!!!!!!!!! then push up the boost--and up the fuel--and it will run--but youll still have to watch that exhaust temp!!!!!!

So do I have to get a pyrometer? Or can I measure a different way? How much does it cost and where can I get it?
Thanks a mil,
Steve
EDIT: I just talked to the guy from ATS and he said that a pyrometer is pretty much a necessity and it would run me $189 bringing all the damage to $2,657.
Now, since I have the turbo, exhaust and pyrometer cleared... is there any other add ons that I NEED to make this work?

nope, pyro is the only way. My guages should be at my door in the next few minutes. Ensure that you get quality guages since you dont want to have a engine issue/failure due to a $100 part....

Do the gauges come with the pyrometer?

if its an auto i would highly recommend getting a bigger trans cooler as the factory cooler is a JOKE. The factory power steering cooler on a 99 Up is larger.
Also a shift kit would be higly recommended.
My 94 factory turbo would eat transmissions like crackers. The mods made it worse.
