Using trailer break away to move slider

I have a 05 F250 with the integrated brake controller. The controller does not work at low speeds or when stopped. I have tried to get Ford to replace it with the new version that works at all speeds, but they declined. When I need to slide back my Reese sliding hitch I have to put chocks in front of the trailer wheels to slide the hitch back. Is there any problem with pulling the break away cable (which locks the brakes) while I do this?

That will work and not cause any issues, I have done it in the past with my slider when I was moving it around the yard when I'm to lazy to plug the trailer in. It will put full battery voltage to the brakes, just like my Draw- Tite brake controller does when I turn it up and put the slide all the way over.

It won't even hold if you slide the lever all the way to the left?

No. It does nothing below 10mph.

I think I would look into buying the controller for an 06 and replace it myself. My "built in May 2005" MY 2006 works sitting still. I hold the lever to hold the 5er still and move the truck forward or backward.
Do you have the upfitter switches? Wonder if you could connect one of the upfitter switches, or an add on switch, to work the brakes when you want to slide?

Yes, I have the upfitters. I would like to upgrade the controller, but they are pricey. I only slide the hitch a few time per year so I can't justify the expense. I'll keep looking for an updated one (may out of a wrecked truck).
