Vacation/Towing Report

Well just returned from our trip to East Tennessee from South Florida, 1648 miles towing our 30 ft travel trailer (10K) and 800 LB Harley Electra Glide in the bed. and ~300 miles running truck empty in the mountains.

Since installing the Edge juice W/ Attitude Platinum and running in the #2 TOW SETTING, the Truck towed Great, got a little over 10.2 MPG towing the load at 70 MPH (same as my old 02 7.3L, 2WD) a little better when I had to slow down. Route was I-95 to I-26 to I-40, than some back roads. I really like the way it towed in the mountain's in the Tow/Haul mode. Actually used the T/H when running empty in the mountain's too and it worked great. Went up Saluda Grade on I-26 in NC at 65 MPH in 4th with pedal to spare ~1200 deg F, on the EGT gage and 2600-2800 RPM.

Had a blow out on the trailer on I-40, ~8 miles from the TN line, was going between 45-50 mph, this is on the twisty section of the interstate, where there is the concrete barriers on both sides of the lanes. Had ~16" between the trailer an the wall, but got it changed out, both tire and rim are trashed.

We stayed at our property for 3 days and than stayed at the Great Smoky Jellystone, which is just outside of Gatlinburg, Actually it is in Cosby. Very nice campground (spotless) and had a nice site on the stream. It was a little cool in the evenings low to mid 50s at night (upper 40s one night )and upper mid to upper 70s during the day.

All in All we had a great time and truck Preformed Great.

One thing I did noticed is the something weird with cruise control, when pulling on the highway I would get it to 70 MPH and set the CC and it would drop to ~66 and than speed up to get back to 70, My 02 never did this.

Re: Vacation/Towing Report

My CC does the same thing. Kinda irritating. The VW Jetta we have is seamless when setting CC..

Glad you had no troubles during vacation. I've got one coming up in 30 days; towing our 5er to Flathead Lake in MT.. Truck's going in the shop tomorrow to rectify low power/turbo farting issues..

Last year we towed that camper nearly 4,000 miles to Maryland (D.C. trip), then down to Gatlinburg, TN., an home without a single issue.. Averaged 10.4 loaded.
