We took our new Everest 294L on its maiden voyage this weekend. Had a great time and loved the fifth wheel! On the way, we hit the scales at the truck stop.
The good news – the loaded fifth wheel weighs only 11,520 lbs – that’s almost 1,000 lbs under its GVWR. It includes all groceries, tools, firewood, 400 lbs (3/4 tank) of fresh water, etc. etc.
The bad news – It exceeds my F250’s GVWR by 337 lbs after subtracting the water. Both axles are within their GAWRs, but totaled, the vehicle’s GVWR is exceeded. The hitch weight on this 294L is very heavy – 2,740 lbs.
So, as many have stated, you can be under specs in several areas, but still overweight. The total weight of the fifth wheel is within limits, both axles are within limits, but the vehicles GVWR has been exceeded.
My plan is to not worry about it, but:
a. Move some weight aft of the axles
b. Travel with all tanks empty
c. Take it easy and don’t overwork the truck
d. Buy some air bags some day, to level the truck back up
The Powerstroke diesel pulled this load very respectably I might add. A dually is just too long and wide for me as a daily driver. You can see where I have to 90 degree park this beast. Look at the last pic at:

Actual weights from scale slips:
Loaded with three people, dog full gas, ready to camp
4,820 - Front Truck Axle
5,940 – Rear Axle
8,780 – Trailer’s two axles on one scale
19,540 – Total
Empty Truck – one driver and full of gas (no cargo except hitch installed)
2007, F250, SB, 4X4, PSD, Crew Cab, 6.0 PSD
4,660 - Front Truck Axle
3,360 – Rear Axle
8,020 - Total
Hope this helps others,
Ken
