Im trying to search the web for a good condition used
flat tow behind trailer.
i tried traderonline.com but cant seem to find anything (possibly
im looking in the wrong section).
ideally im looking for a twin axel, w/ brakes, 16-22 ft trailer
that would be versitile enough to haul a car...a wooden deck would
work too, since then i could drill holes for mounting motorcycle
tie downs.
Check out eBay, they have all kinds of trailers on there. Just might take a little while to find the trailer you want for a price you want to pay. Good luck!

I don't know where you're located but I would look at farm auctions if there are any in your area, Thrifty Nickel (or whatever it's called now) is another good place to look. Newspaper classifieds are good too. Might even try typing "used trailer (and your location)" in Google.
all good info...i like the big tex stuff...too bad they dont
post any prices on their used link.
racing junk has provided a few trailers worth persuit.
rvtraderonline shows zip other than travel trailers...maybe im
doin' something wrong ?
thanks everyone...please if you have additional suggestions, PLEASE
post 'em here...ive gotta come up w/ something quick so i can
pick up a cobra replica in CT for hauling to TX.
Please don't take this wrong but...well...GOOD LUCK!!
Seriously. I have done this 4 times now looking for various trailers. Each time I have the hardest time finding a decent used trailer. Each time I have not been in a hurry so I have had plenty of time to look, research, and watch the "market". Each time I have looked a minimum of 2 months, around 5 at the longest. I have not wanted anything out of the ordinary. 2 open car trailers, one smalish tilt utility, and an enclosed car. For the most part the only thing I have been able to find is trash. Trailers ran into the ground, badly damaged, cobbled together from junk, etc... It always seems that things are priced so close to new that it is not worth the hassle. Tried all the local papers, classifieds, eBay, google till I was cross eyed.
Perhaps it is just me, or the area, don't know. I can generally turn up a decent deal with a little research. In the trailer area I sort of petered out.
On my first open I ended up with a decent flat deck tandem. I ended up putting 4 tires and 2 rims on it. The tires were obvious when I looked it over. The breaks had never been used but I ended up having a bad magnet. The wiring was rotten at the connectors so I had to fix that. All said and done I had close to the cost of a new trailer in it. It did have a great deck and no rust and a nice tool box.
I shopped enclosed trailers just to see but I set out intending to buy new. Now I sort of expected that used market to be a little thin because of the $$$ involved and the comparative volume of smaller trailers. The deal was about the same. Old claped out trailers with damage, bad floors, torn up interiors, etc….. Prices….up there! I could find nothing I could fix and not equal or surpass the new boxes I had looked at.
My third foray was for an open car trailer, again. I sold the first before I bout my enclosed. God that was a mess. Most stuff I would not put a Hot Wheel on. For some reason folks around here selling trailers are like the worse used car salesman you ever talked to. I ended up buying new. 16’ + 2’ dove tail, tandem Dexter axles, brakes on one axle, clip on ramps that stow under the deck, new 15 tires and rims, stake pockets that I use as tie points when I haul quads, “Extra” wide at 7’. $1550.
I just went through looking for a decent 5’X8’ or longer tilt utility to tote around a quad. Jeezzzz, I looked for months as I was not a pressing matter, it was more of a “would be nice to have”. Again, eBay, general Internet, local papers, friends, trailers for same on the side of the road. All junk or more than (or so close to that it was not funny) to a new trailer that it was not worth it. One guy even had one advertised that turned out to be a wrecked car trailer with a couple feet cut out and “grafted” back on the frame. The front edge was ripped apart, no jack, 2 beyond bald tires, NO deck, the remaining frame was twisted, and an off center axle due to the missing few feet. He had second built mainly from those stamped steel galvanized 2x4’s used to frame walls. I even went to look at a trailer that, get this, was made out of scrap metal from an old bed frame.
Again, this just may be my luck, my area, my karma, or what ever. I guess I am saying don’t rule out shopping around for a new unit. Around here there is great differences in price and features. I have a couple of actual manufactures (mo middle man mark up) close by and tons of dealers. Oddly enough the lowest prices (new) are for the better optioned and stronger/heavier trailers. You just have to shop them to figure out who has what.
Good luck!!

for the best deal--you will want to look at new. as stated above, most of the used is totally junk or if it isn't--so close to new $$ that the difference is laughable. i am in missouri and best place to get a trailer is in sikeston (southeast part of the state). if you do a search for trailer manufacturers in sikeston mo, you will get the websites and phone numbers. i got mine from c&h trailers.
18'+2' dovetail, tandem axle with brakes on both axles, extra wide (83" inside the fenders), drive over fenders, waterproof lights, 5' ramps, 2X10 wood deck (didn't want metal). all for less than $1200.00 this was in either 2000 or 2001. check it out!! there are no less than 6 makers in sikeston and they are all within a couple of miles of each other. you can get food at lamberts (home of the throwed rolls).
you may also look to uhaul and just rent one?
good luck- chuck

im not in texas yet...rather im in virginia "visiting" so to speak...
ive looked at uhaul and figure id rather make the investmetn in
OWNING rather than renting from them 2 or 3 times (at least this
way ill have something & can sell it/recoupe SOME of my money
rather than giving it to uhaul)
ive agreed to haul a car for a friend from CT to TX and ill be
moving from virginia to texas...so easily ill need a trailer
once if not twice over the course of the next 6mo. or less.
friend is paying for my fuel and the uhaul and i said HEY
either toss me the 550 you were gonna spend or lets split the
cost of a good car haul/trailer...worst case we sell it later
and were not nearly out as much as we would be if we gave it
to uhaul
any recommedations for quality trailers (car hauler, wooden or
metal deck, 2ax., w/ brakes)...in the virginia, wva, md, pa area ?
or even between virginia and CT ???
thanks for EVERYONE suggestions...its all been good and ive
been persuign everyone of them !
