one of my buddies didn't have access to the trailer he normaly borrows, so i figured I'd use the wedge and haul both of ours.. but since I had room for three, I figured we might as well put all three on there..
Only went about 20 miles each way, but it actually did rather well, pulled 60 in 5th gear on the flats pretty easily, and 4rth on the hills..
steer axle 3920lbs
drive axle 8900lbs
total truck 12600lbs(axle weights dont add up because the scale is about 6" off the ground, throwing individual axle weights off a bit)
trailer weight 16540lbs
Total weight, 29140lbs..
the truck weighs around 6900 empty with me in it, so thats about 5500lbs of pin weight..

I'm guessing that you were really somewhere between 3,000 to 4000 lbs over gawr on the rear axle. Are you sure it was really only 1400 lbs over on the rear axle? What is the rear axle weight rating on that truck?

As long as you are not commercial, and not making money you should be ok. If you had a set of airbags to level you out no one would look twice at you.
If you get pulled by the DOT, just make sure you explain what your doing well.
Nice load. Haul on.

Add fuel to that it jumps to 14.8 cents per mile over the life of the truck.
the rating on the sticker is 6240 to match what the stock tires are, whether or not that means anything, is a debate that has been hashed out numerous times...
I run 285 E's, rated for 3750 each. CDL? yeah, plated? kinda.. My truck is plated in MN(where you run separate weights for the truck and trailer), and the trailer is from work, in MI where we run permanent trailer plates, with no weight weights on them.. So it's kinda a grey area..
Would I pull that setup for a long haul?? no.. its just to heavy for my truck.
I did put 600 miles on it with the rear two rigs on it though, and the weights were alot better, about 25,500 gross, and only about 6500 on the drives. It handled that trip great, except for averaging around 8.8 mpg doing it. I even passed the DOT, and he went right on past...
Would it pull it without the turbo? I'm sure it would have, but alot slower...

It sounds as if the only reason why it was illegal was because you surpassed the weight rating on the drive tires. The gvwr, gcwr, and gawr are only suggestions given by the manufacturer, but are not law.
