Re: whats a good brake controller

I don't have a lot of experience towing with a brake controller, I came to this forum and after reading felt that Prodigy gave the best bang for the buck. I have not been sorry. I am extremely pleased with its performance and as you say simplicity.

Re: whats a good brake controller

The manufacturers already put pressure switches and in some cases pressure sensors on the hydraulic circuits. You might be able to feel a difference on an all drum brake truck but with disc brakes and the deflection in calipers, you cannot feel the very slight amount of displaced fluid used by a pressure sensor or even the old hydraulic controllers.

Re: whats a good brake controller

Come on folks, what ever happened to Jordan Ultima? Just a vague mention of it above. It was all the rage about 4 years ago. I'm still using mine. Whenever the pedal is depressed, it's working. Forward, reverse, ice...you name it.

True, it's not pressure sensing, but it does work well and you don't have to deal with the momentum garbage.

Re: whats a good brake controller

I was just given a Jordan new in the box from my dad. The Tekonsha that I had had some issues in my truck, and he offered to give me the Jordan, as he had bought it and never installed it.

After getting it installed, and using it to pull a few different trailers recently from a 32' gooseneck with a JD backhoe, to a 24' stock trailer it has performed great. I no longer have any jerking that I got accustomed to.

If the man is still making the Jordan when I need another, I will be buying them in the future.

Re: whats a good brake controller

I will second that, until the factory controller in my truck the Jordan was the best brake controller I ever used. It does not rely on deacceleration (inertia) to apply braking action. It has a direct connection to the brake pedal so braking action is completely proportional and not subject to traction of the TV.

Re: whats a good brake controller

where do you find the jordans? how hard are they to install? do the truck manufacturers like you taping into their brake?

Re: whats a good brake controller

They are temporarily out of production, due to the company being purchased. It does not tap into the brake line, it uses a cable attached to the brake pedal. It can be easily removed. I never had to have my Dodge service so I don't know for sure, but I suspect it should not present any problems.

GM incorporates a plug in wire harness for the controller add on. Plug in the harness on the firewall behind the parking brake and your set. Everything is wired in to the 7pt plug at the bumper. They got tired of everyone tapping into the wrong wires for sensors.

Re: whats a good brake controller

yeah my dodge has a plug for an aftermarket brake controller. Tekoshna sells a harness to hook up to the 03-06 doges and other models.

Guess I am going to have to break down and speed the $$ to get a MaxBrake unit. First had a Tekonsha Voyager but the pendulum would start swinging with the surging of the front rotors amplifying the action till my whole rig would be bouncing like a rodeo bull. Read many of the rave reviews on the Tekonsha Prodigy and the electronic accelerometer, figured it would be a better option, in some ways it is better but it will also go through the bouncing problem as was experienced recently while hauling some pine logs to the dump. The gooseball load was heavier on the truck than what I usually load the JD5300 4x4 tractor and it started bouncing as I slowed to turn which is when it became apparent money was going to have to become a very secondary issue to get away from this issue. I know new rotors will help also, but you never know when that problem will recur.
