Why is it that I see less and less 6.0 haulers? Ford was all I saw for a long time. Now I see more Dodges. I just wondered what gives? Does Ford not have more towing capacity? Any thoughts?

Re: Why do I see fewer 6.0 car haulers (hot shot)?
I bet it has something to do with hot shoters needing the most reliable rig possible and all the "problems" the 6.0's have had too. No problems here but the talk about it prob swayed alot of people that are in need of a truck that they can count on.

Re: Why do I see fewer 6.0 car haulers (hot shot)?
Perhaps these guys dont buy BRAND NEW...i know if i were
beating my truck to death for a living id take advantage of
the used truck market, and try to reduce my cost/overhead
and improve my margin.
I personally cant imagine buying a 52k dollar truck to
make a living...'specially w/ fuel cost and maint. what
they are...
for the life of me i dont know how these hot shot guys
can make a living.
Re: Why do I see fewer 6.0 car haulers (hot shot)?
These guys put over 100k a year on their trucks they have to buy new. You couldn't buy a used truck every year. And they get to write the truck off on their taxes so that helps to.

You drive in the wrong state. I see far more new Fords here than any other brand.
[/ QUOTE ]
I run I-95 between NC and SC every month and Bad_Influence is right. Most are pulling campers but the hotshots that I do see are mostly Fords. There is an auto auction down the road from my SC destination and most of the haulers going in and out are Fords also.
You gotta remember too that the Dodges and D/A's have had their problems also and if you read enough of these forums for the different brands you'll see that all of the big three have had their problems.
I feel that the 6.0 problems are mostly in the past but that the early failures put such a stigma over the engine that it has a bad name now. Remember too that you don't usually hear about the hundreds of thousands of 6.0 engines happily plying the roads everyday.
Would I buy another 6.0 powered truck? Absolutely, there are other things that I like than just the engine. Besides, I find it hard for me to sit in a Dodge, let alone drive one any distance.

Because most small carhaulers are going to single axle big trucks for the sleeper and more power and wieght.

We do here in Wyoming as well. We have between 10-15 hot shot drivers pull in our shop (National Oilwell, Downhole tools) every day dropping off & picking up mud motors. The majority are 6.0 Power Stroke Super duties with the Dodge Cummins a close second. The D-max Chevy's are far and few between.

Re: Why do I see fewer 6.0 car haulers (hot shot)?
Yeah dodge will get better fuel milage but from my expierience haulin cars I have blown any dodge out of the water when it comes to running up a good grade. I agree though I am an OTR driver and I am seeing a lot of 05 6.0 fords my guess is because the brake controler. My personal opinion on the 6.0 is carry a lot of coolant with you if your pullin something heavy. I have a 03 7.3 and I would not trade it for a 6.0 ever. I am not trying to put any 6.0 owner down but I would not recommend a 6.0 for hotshotting. I very often see them on the roadside puffing white smoke with the driver on the phone calling a tow truck. They just dont like the massive strain on the aluminum heads.

Re: Why do I see fewer 6.0 car haulers (hot shot)?
I appologize about that I thought the 6.0 had ALUM. heads also. What I do know is my dad being a mech for Ford said that they have had a number of 6.0s come in with bad head gaskets and also one with either a cracked or warped head on it. The truck had under a 100K on it to thats what I find scary about towing anything with one.

Re: Why do I see fewer 6.0 car haulers (hot shot)?
i wouldnt be shocked at the headgasket going bad.way i understand is the 6.0 has 10 head bolts per side, could be the reason for the gasket failures, just a theroy.
