You should have an engine diagnostic button on that year truck, it is a small black push button, with the key on and engine off just press it and count out the check engine light flash sequence. However it may not be storeing any codes. Have you checked your fuel filter and your prefilter fuel/water seperator screen behind the fuel filter?

Post the code numbers, I"ll find there deffinitions and post later, or someone may post them sooner for you. Make sure you check your prefilter screen behind the fuel filter, it is a small plastic upright canister in the same fuel line as the filter, it unscrews counter clockwise, remove the screen and clean it then clean the screen housing and make sure you prime the housing or the you'll never keep the engine running.

Post all the 3 digit codes and I can help.... I have a list somewhere. Does it just jerk or does it lose power?

Re: 1996 International 4700 DT466 Turbo

May not be the same situation but we had a fire truck with a DT466 tht had periodic losses of power in an unpredictable way. Threw no codes. Int'l has a TSB out on the turbo actuator control solonoid and mechanism. Int'l replaced our entire turbo assembly and the problem went away.

Your problem was on the 2004 and up engines. It does not apply to his engine. He needs to check codes and check his fuel pressure while under load.
