3208 cat's

Hi
I have twin 3208 caterpillars in my 42' boat and one has started to blow black smoke abd leave a film on the water could this be from bad fuel I have cleaned and replace the fuel filters and check the valves but it still blows black smoke will this clear up or could I have a problem with the injector pump the engine sounds fine I live in baja and I can't find anyone in town that knows for sure any information would be help full

sounds like a bad injector.

is the engine running rough?

Is it turbo charged?

Usually black smoke means too much fuel or unburned fuel. As mentioned, could be a bad injector. How long has this gone on and what was it doing before this all started? Maybe some fuel injection cleaner in the system might work....

it hasn't been very long it was running find before but now when I start the engine it continues to run until it runs out of fuel it also runs at high rpms I have loosened the injectors and only one will leak any fuel I have been able to get a mex mech. to come out to look at it but this is mexico and you don't know if they will show up I will try the injector cleaner what brand would you recommend for diesel

As long as it's for diesel fuel, it should be fine. It's worth a try.

sorry it has been so long but have been having problems with internet
what I found was the injector pump had a screw come loose and it got in to the piston springs and caused a lot of problems was able to order the parts and I'am now waiting for them to get here to baja so that I can rebuild the pump
