Re: 6 speed plus manual transmission

It is actually a 7 speed. Ultra low gear plus 6 regular ratios and of course reverse.

there was/is two 6spds available from spicer.spicer the the tranny most often found in ih mediums. the 6+1 is actually a od tranny, dont remember the percentage of the od off hand.pretty good little tranny btw ...

Re: 6 speed plus manual transmission

Wish I had that instead of the 6 speed direct in my rollback. 72mph is 2700rpms for me.

What I can tell you is that it's called the ES066-7B. It's very easy to shift since it's synchronized. Parts and rebuilds are readily available. I got a reman for ~$2,300. Many will say they're not so good because they see so many fail, but I think so many fail because there's so many of them out there.

It's a nice trans if you need an O/D gear to get higher highway speeds and has a 7.48 1st, 4.43 2nd, 2.76 3rd, 1.90 4th, 1.34 5th, 1.00 6th and a .74 7th O/D. Reverse is 6.66. Torque capacity is 660 ftlbs.

There's also a ES527B, which is a 7 speed direct trans.

Re: 6 speed plus manual transmission

is this an option for the 99+ trucks? I have a 6 speed now... but sounds like that 7th gear would give me better fuel mileage right? and where would I get one?

Not available in Ford chassis, only International chassis applications. The 6 speed plus also uses the SAE bellhousing IIRC, so it would not be a simple bolt up, changing the flywheel housing would be needed and a bit of fabrication to make everything work together.
