The SES on these trucks only dealt with the EGR systems. All 6.2L's have mechanical injection pumps and injectors, so the SES won't have anything to do with timing, injection, etc.
It might be possible that the EGR valve is stuck open. If you pull the air cleaner off, the EGR valve is right in the middle of the intake manifold. Pull the valve off, and find the correct size freeze plug to drive into its place to block off the exhaust passages. Better yet, find a non-EGR manifold off a 1 ton 6.2L truck. Then pull the bulb out of the SES light.
This only applies to 1/2 ton and light duty 3/4 ton VIN code "c" trucks. Heavy duty 3/4 ton and 1 ton VIN code "J" trucks didn't have any EGR systems.
