Acetone Additive

Ok I remember reading a post on this a year or two ago has anyone acctually tried using acetone as an additive w/diesel? I saw an article in the local paper about it increasing mileage up to 25% in trucks and 35% in cars.

I'm real skepticle about using something like this with these exspensive injectors

Re: Acetone Additive

This was debunked years ago in these forums but since the cocked up changes to the website and the lack on indexing on older posts you cannot find it. No advantage.

Re: Acetone Additive

I can't imagine throwing acetone into my diesel. But I'm intrigued about two-stroke oil, so am going to start my own thread.....

Re: Acetone Additive

I can ask the same question about using acetone in your fuel as I do about using two stroke oil. If it is so good and beneficial and harmless, why doesn't someone market it as "Diesel Fuel Mileage Supplement"
As was stated earlier, many TSD members tried it years ago. I doubt if any stayed with it.

Re: Acetone Additive

Mythbusters did an episode on acetone and showed it does very little if anything, IIRC. They rerun fairly regularly, so maybe you can watch and draw your own conclusions.

Re: Acetone Additive

I've been there, done that, already used the T-shirt as a grease rag. It did improve my mileage but only a very small amount. I don't remember the amounts I used and mileage improvements I gained, but I determined it wasn't worth it. I did an extensive test on the same roads, same conditions, same fuel station, several tanks and a few months. I think I covered it pretty good and stopped using it because it wasn't worth it. You may can do a search on my name (a year to a year and a half ago) and find it. My suggestion is don't waste your time with it on a diesel (I've never tried it on a gasser).

Re: Acetone Additive

I think it only helps on engines that don't atomize fuel well. So it won't do much for a diesel or a fuel injected engine. I tried it a few years ago with my neon and couldnt tell any benifit.

Re: Acetone Additive

If I had some sticky injectors I might think about using it to try and clean them, but not as a normal everyday additive.

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
