Anyone notice vapor coming out filler neck with ULSD?

For about the 4th time recently I noticed a "cloud" of vapor coming out of the filler neck while refueling. Looks like smoke.
Anyone else notice this? I've never seen it before in 25 years of owning diesels! I presume it is a characteristic of the new fuel...

Re: Anyone notice vapor coming out filler neck with ULSD?

I myself haven't pumped any, but the refiners claim there is a real danger of fire and explosion with the new ULSD. It is very, very low in conductivity so it is subject to static electricity discharge when pumping unlike the older fuel.

If you are seeing vapor clouds from the tank, then make certain to keep the nozzel in contact with the metal of the filler neck when pumping.

It is likely you're experiencing a condensation effect from the interaction of the air in your tank and the fuel going in. A temperature difference combined with humid air can have that effect.

Read about static/gas, but not on d. fuel. Where did u get info? Haven't seen any specific d.fuel WARNING signs on pump.

Just Google up key words 'ULSD static' together in same search. The info is too numerous to list here.

Re: Anyone notice vapor coming out filler neck with ULSD?

All the references I can find to ULSD and static electricity are referring to pumping at distribution points. While the static issue is real, what they seem to be concerned about is the ignition of *gasoline* vapors in the air, not the diesel fuel or vapors. Because one of the mentioned solutions is to slow down the transfer speed, and consumer pumps are already pretty darn slow compared to those used when filling trucks, I'm guessing it simply isn't an issue that they're concerned about at the retail pump.
