It is absolutely cool, and there is no problem having it posted more than once. After all, if some babe has a "wardrobe malfunction" during the Superbowl halftime show, do you think there's only going to be one conversation about it tomorrow? I don't think so ...
Next someone will post about a f350 that does 11's at vegas midnight madness. lol

LOL! I just posted that about two or three weeks ago; guess it wasn't news to anyone!

I've been in the engine rooms of large container ships and they started those engines with compressed air. The ship had a large air compressor that filled a large air reciever. To start the engine they would dump the air into one of the cylinders on that was sitting at the top of the stroke and start the engine turning. It was amazing to learn that the engine had no gearing the the crankshaft was connected directly to the propshaft. To reverse the screw they stopped the engine and restarted it in reverse. Remember it is a 2 stroke! Reverse was basically for stopping and or docking the ship. Tugs and or bow thrusters also helped with docking.

Well, when the engine is only turning probably 85 rpm at cruise power, you wouldnt have to gear the prop down to stop cavitation.
I liked the pictures of the crankcase of that thing. Steps and ladders to get down to the underside of the crank!
It set a record of like 100K horsepower at a blistering 101.5 rpm! I think that site also said it's one of the most fuel effecient engines ever made.
Now if they would run it on biodiesel.........

Thanks, I wondered 'cause I could not locate any type of axillary or 'pony" engine. I know big rigs use air but that is for a starter motor, not direct into the engine as your explanation
garyT
Wrong kind of air start. Trucks used air starters. Starter motors that are powered by air and not electricity. That engine uses compressed air forced into a cylinder to get it going. Like someone else said.
