Building a Diesel Pulling Truck

I am going to start on building a Diesel pulling truck and I have two motors in mind to use! I am thinking about a 5.9 Cummins(Mechanical) and a Internationl 466. Does anyone know the weights of these motors. I have a 68 1200 4x4 International that I was going to use so that is why I was wanting to use the 466 if it is possible to keep it in the family. I was also wondering which motor could get the most hp for the least amount of money.

Thanks for any info
Ryan

Re: Building a Diesel Pulling Truck

DT466 isn't a bad chioce, but the 12V will probally be cheaper to make more power. Alot more people and products out there who mod 12V's.

DT466 is better suited in a Ryder truck, IMO.

Re: Building a Diesel Pulling Truck

The 466 is 1250lbs.dry and the Cummins 6BT5.9 is 880lbs. According to my OLD Fleet Owner spec book.

Re: Building a Diesel Pulling Truck

the 5.9 will possibly be cheaper but has its limits, I think the 466 will easily make 800 reliable Horsepower with the right kit from Hypermax, last time I looked they made a 671 CID kit for the DT466. differnt crank, cam, rods, girdles, thats just the internals they have pumps, injectors line turbos EVERYTHING, it was like a 4 page list.

I don't know what I am doing, I just know I don't have time to do it.

That would be really cool if it was all IH. You'll need to start looking for a tranny for it, too. Call Jeff at Hypermax and tell him what you want to do.
