Buying a diesel with some questions

So im new to forums and new to diesels, ive searched for answers so dont give me crap. Im looking in to buying a ford f 350 turbo diesel. Now what confusing me is its a 1994, but im not sure if its a PS 1994.5 or T444E. The truck is about 5 hours away so its a little difficult to figure it all out.

1.First how do i tell if its the PS or T444E?
2. Can i tell by the VIN with motor it is?
3. If it is a T444E is it as good as the PS?
4. If its the T444E are there performance mods? I wanted edge programmer, banks intercooler set up etc. would it work?
5. Thanks for any help!

Powerstroke is Ford's nickname for a T444E. 7.3 litres is 444 cid. The E stands for electronic. The early 1994 Fords were IDI- indirect injection.
The easiest way to tell a PSD from an IDI is open the hood. The IDI has an injection pump in the valley with a steel line to each injector which are visible. The glowplugs and wires are also visible. The air filter is a black rectangular box on top of the engine.
The PSD may have a small black plastic engine cover. No injection pump, the injectors and glowplugs are under the valve covers and the air filter box is on the driver's side fender well behind the battery with a large tube connecting it to the turbo.

and as far as power the turbo 7.3L and the powerstroke 7.3L are about the same or is the powerstroke way better. I want some power i want to be able to keep up and pass up the little ricers in a one ton truck.
