General DieselDiscussion about diesels in general. All brands are welcome, please refrain from brand wars. Discussions about types of diesel fuel also go here.
I have been purchasing fuel at Wal Mart since July when I bought my truck and there is no sticker on the pump stating Ultra Low Sulfer, so Iam not sure weather it is or not.
If it is ULSD it should have a sticker with 500ppm info on it right on the pump.

You are correct about the ULSD being 15 ppm. Also, I would have to figure that any major brand station would be selling only ULSD by now. I guess I would want to be sure, but the LSD pumps should have a clear warning label on them.

Walmart probably buys from the lowest bidder, which may be a small independent refinery that is still not producing ULSD.

With your truck, it won't matter whether its LSD or ULSD. When you buy an 08 MY, 6.4, THATS when it will matter, and it had BETTER be ULSD, or you'll be looking at expensive, non-warranty repairs.

Your right,sorry...15ppm not 500ppm. LSD is 500ppm.

Altho they may be selling it, they can't hang the stickers till the fuel at the nozzle tests out to be 15ppm or less.
The ULSD is easily contaminated by even the smallest quantity of left over regular diesel, so it takes awhile before the sulfur level in the stations tanks drop to 15ppm or less.
What you are buying might already be ULSD but slightly higher in sulfur than allowed by law before it can be labled ULSD.

[/ QUOTE ] I was getting gas at Shell station with a dual (gas/diesel) pump one week ago. I saw BOTH labels on one side and only the LSD label on the other side. I asked the clerk (inside) why both LSD and ULSD labels were on there. She said something in broken english and went out to look for herself. She muttered something and started picking at and trying to peel one of the LSD labels off. And then she said that she didn't know if she had anymore of the "new" labels. The LSD label was on the gas "side" of the pump also. Not too confusing for most people.
By the end of the year the ULSD will be the only available. Anyway it has a different color then the old high caffeine diesel.
"The color of a diesel fuel is not related to its performance. As long as the fuel meets specifications, it will perform well in your engine. The natural color of diesel fuels has traditionally varied from colorless to amber. As refinery processing of the diesel fuel increases to remove sulfur the color has tended to get lighter and the diesel can change color. When it changes color the diesel is typically light in tone and can be green, orange or pink. Sometimes it might show a slight fluorescence when held up to light. Such a change in color does not affect the quality of the diesel." reference for above statement.
The station I use does not have their pumps marked at all but the diesel is green so I *assume* it's the ULSD.
