Smile DT 466 or 6.0 power stroke

OK heres the deal. I have a 05 f450-6.0 It seems to be in the shop at least once a year sense I bought it new. It has about 64,000 miles. It is in the shop as we speak. The tow truck was an 03 International 4300 w/DT466. It kind of got my interest. Just wondering if a International 4300 w/dt466 would be more dependable then my f450? Also how would a 255hp dt466 compare to the 6.0?
Thanks for any help.
Jack

DT466E is far more dependable. Does not have the pick up or acceleration but does have more torque for towing.

Right, they're very dependable and have a lot of pulling power compared to any pickup truck diesel. They're classified as a mid-duty diesel, 2 axle dump trucks, power company trucks, etc. Where I used to work we maintained a fleet of about 30 IH's with DT466's and they proved to be excellent engines. They were in front of 5 speeds with 2 speed rear ends which made a good reliable combination for that size truck.

Besides, with a bigger truck comes bigger payload and bigger BRAKES.

Bigger brakes you hit it there. Nuthin' scares me more than seeing a tridem dual trailer behind a single wheel pickup with electric brakes cause the chip doesn't make the brakes work better

It would be much more fun with the 466 at 400hp vs a 6 litre at 400hp too.

dt 466 engines get my vote any day. beware though, the electronic 466e engines have had a few issues over the years, but nothing major. this being said, how bad do you really need the much bigger truck. is it worth the extra hassle from the d.o.t, is it worth the xtra fuel your burning, is it worth the insurance issues you may run into. not trying to talk you out of it, just giving you some things to consider before takeing the leap..
