flatbed

oki have a tech project in the making
has anyone built their own flatbed?

i want something that will work for my truck (srw) but be able to handle almost anything

and i do not find all the added boxes and lights necessary which i will also run lights to keep it legit but i do not need 40 of them

i was thinking 2x3 i beam with a 2x3 box welded to its side and angle iron around the sides with a 2in tounge and groove deck

waht do you guys think?
id also add a gn hitch

Re: flatbed

I would watch ebay for a used bed and then modify it to your liking. I've seen some pretty decent bed's go cheap if you watch for them.

Example

Little rusty, but nothing a quick pass through a sandblaster and a coat of new paint wouldn't fix. Something like that you could put the gooseneck in, build the deck however you want it and still come out ahead. With the cost of steel these days it's hard to build a frame for that much.

Reply to 88beast:
Have flatbed body with dump sissor under that I will sell. This body also has the opening in center for the GN hitch. The GN hitch is mounted in the frame so as not to be pulling straght off the body. If you are interested let me know.
