GMC Topkick w/ CAT 3116 Engine Issues...

In need of some immediate help. Our companies plow/salt truck (1991 GMC TopKick with a CAT 3116) has broken down and has been left in the parking lot of a funeral home for the past couple of hours. We flat towed it until there was no more air in the brake system and can not go any further.

Last night the truck began running rough... however after being up for 45+ hours plowing and salting, the driver cannot recal exactly what the issues were. The truck was left away from the office last night however was plugged in. When we came to it today, it would crank, was hard starting, and evenutally took some starting fluid sprayed directly into the intake to get fired. When it did start, it would run decent just above idle with weight propped against the pedal. When the pedal was returned to idle position, the truck stalled. It refired right away without issue. That repeated about 3 or 4 times after that. When we got it running after the 4th attempt, we decided to drive it back to the office. During the drive the truck was going back and forth between blowing white and black smoke. About 5 mins and 2 miles into the drive, while cruising down the road at 35mph the engine just cut out. We coasted into a nearby street and from there it was dead. We have not been able to restart yet. It was flattowed until the air was drained and now the truck sits in a parking lot about 1/2 mile from our office.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great. We are used to dealing with diesel engines, however this is the first CAT we have run in our crew. The rest being Powerstrokes and Cummins.

Thanks in advance!!

Kinda sounding like it's sucking in a little air. Put 5 pounds of air in the tanks, and look for leaks. That, or something fuel supply related.
