Question How is an 8.2 Detroit Different That The Other Detroits?

Hi everyone. Here is a Detroit question. Why is it that the 8.2 V8 "fuel sipper" has a totally different sound than all the other detroits? It doesn't have that high winding sound. It's not classified as a 53, 71 or 92 series.

Its a 4 stroke diesel the others 53, 71, 92, and 149's are two strokes.

And its widely considered a P.O.S.

Only good for keeping a boat anchored

8.2 similar to6.2?

Does the 8.2 share any similarities with the 6.2 and 6.5 GM motors? Does it have indirect injection and high compression ratio like the GM motors? Wasn't the GM motor a Detoit design licensed to GM? Twogun

Well, there might be similar parts such as the thermostat (some had one and some had two as I recall) but other than that, not really. Injection was direct and mechanical unit injectors were used (camshaft/rocker actuated) like the two-cycle engines but the rack setup was more of a pain to do.
