how to conserve diesel?

With the continuous increase of gas/diesel prices, how can you conserve diesel of you are driving a SUV besides not driving one? I'm a new driver by the way. Thanks in advance.

Keep off the pedal as much as possible and use coasting and hills to your advantage.

Don't treat the gas pedal as an on/off switch.

Pretend there is an egg under the accelerator.

OK, This is the third duplicate post on this same question by the same member. Check the 6.0 engine forum, and the general questions forum.

Pour used filtered engine oil/ tranny fluid in the tank. you could prabably do 2 gallons per tank on your truck. i run a 50/50 mix or more of used avaition oil with about 30 hours on it in my 1996. but thats just me, my truck is paid for 10 fold. BTW: it saved me 50% fuel prices for the last 5 years. Shh!

To add to what the others have said, use the brakes as little as possible.

Get rid of the lift kit and huge tires (if you have one). If you have a manual like I do, keep it in the right power band - don't rev it more than you need to if you can pull the next gear without lugging. Let it slow down a little going up a hill, and recover the speed going down the back side. If you have gauges, keep the boost and pyro down - they're directly proportional the amount of fuel you're burning. Drive 60 instead of 70. Anticipate stops early and coast in rather than slamming the brakes at the last second. The list goes on...

Or you can really cheat like I do and run WVO. Last trip with the truck I went 2700 miles on 8 gallons of diesel

Slow accelerations when possible. Don't mash the peddle. Try to time the lights so that you do not stop. Avoid slow traffic if possible. Drive the speed limit if all possible. If you are 'alone' you could go slower (ie 60 in a 65 or 50 in a 55), but don't impede traffic.

Make sure your air cleaner is not dirty. Check the tire pressure. If possible, run the highest you can that doesn't start a wear pattern or is too harsh for you (hard to do if you have a 1 ton pickup).

I put in 20+ gallons of filtered motor oil at a time.
