New 6.7?

Thinking about trading in my '06 Dodge/Cummins 2500, SLT, 6-speed G56, Mega, 4x4, DVD, sunroof, cab lights, for an '08 Dodge/Cummins 2500, Big Horn Quad shortbed, Aisin 6-speed auto, exhaust brake, thumb shift.

Comes with tube steps, bedliner, cab lights.

Anyone have one? The auto is pretty dang quick, the exhaust brake is very nice. The thumb shift is handy also.

We don't NEED the megacab, just wanted one at the time. My g/f would feel more comfortable driving a shorter wheelbase truck around town. The DVD rarely gets used. The 6.7 is very quiet (and the exhaust tip looks NORMAL )

Yes, it has all that BS emissions stuff on it. Yes, it will probably get a few MPGs lower than the 5.9 (until if/when the DPF is removed). The only thing it's missing is sunroof and MP3 aux input, but those can be added.

Here is a pic:

Thanks,

Nick

looks like a nice truck, and ive seen a few 6.7 at a truck pull awhils back and they were monsters, but it is a new engine with all the bs on it so i dont think it will be as reliable as the 5.9,but hey if you want it,get, you can always go back to a 5.9 goodluck.

That is what's kind of scaring me, the new issues. I am not looking to make a HP monster out of it, or I would keep the Megacab for sure.

We'll see!

6.7l

I just bought one a month or so ago. 08 CC LB 6.7L w/ 6sp manual. Its a nice truck, quite and runs good so far. I have noticed a few quirks. If the A/C is left on on shutdown it will make a funny little noise on restart, nothing big, just annoying. The mileage is down a little (average 17 on highway and 14 around town, 12 towing 5klbs). Power is good but a different powerband. I drove my brothers the other day (05 CC LB 5.9L 6sp manual, same gears, slightly different tires) and it was quicker and felt more powerfull. His only mods are exhaust and intake. (Edge Juice/Attitude being reflashed)

DPF issues??? Regen causes decrease in mileage. Check out the cummins sites for issues with removal, such as tricking the computer. I plan to experiment with my exhaust and see how restrictive the DPF really is. Everybody claims that it is very restrictive but I haven't seen anything other than claims.

The exhaust brake is nice, works good. I am not a fan of the switch location and at 1600rpms it shuts off then comes back at 1500rpm.

If it doesn't have an Mp3 input it should have the 6 disk stereo, it will play Mp3 CDs. I have about 1600 songs on 6 CDs in my dash.

Bottom line. I think you will like it, but check out some of the dodge/cummins forums for what other people are experiencing, i only have 2k on mine. Good luck.

Hey thanks Brian.

I've been meaning to go to TDR but my membership expired so I am itching to go ask about them there. I will when I get my renewed subscription approved!

Yeah I know about the CDs. I have the 6-disc now but like the plug-and-play capability of the MP3 jack.

Thanks for the exhaust brake info. I wonder why it shuts off for 100 rpm? Yes, it is a weird location. I think what I would possibly do is add a switch to the middle seat area so I can get it with my right hand. I don't tow much so that is just an idea.

My 6-speed is relatively fast but it is smoky with the 170hp Smarty. The new Aisin auto is fast though too, stock! Never really considered an auto until I drove that one. I'll let you know what happens!

Nick

I bet you could get a pretty good price on it. What are they asking these days for our diesel guzzlers?

If you can afford a truck like that in today's economy, go for it!! You'll probably equate to 1/4 of new diesel pickup sales this week, nationwide!!

Actually, the Aisin 6 speed is only found in the Cab & Chassis models...the others have the in-house Chrysler tranny (R68E???), but it seems to be holding up well. Prolly not as beefy as the Aisin and lacks the PTO, but fine for most apps.

Check out this free site:

Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums - Powered by vBulletin

There is a section just for the new 6.7. After a few TSB computer flashes, it seems to be performing well, but the fuel mileage is way down from the 5.9.

Yes, you are correct about the Aisin! Should have caught that! I'm not too familiar with the auto trannies. Yes, it is the 68RFE.

Well, anyway, guess I better get familiar with it since I just bought it tonight

Wow... I'm sure they'll take less. My truck MSRP was something like $47k if I recall. Paid $34.5 (again, if I recall...)

Lou Fusz Dodge was by far my best price... gave me various incentives, plus credit for my membership in Texas Farm Bureau, plus something else... oh, yeah, TDR membership.

My dealer at home in TX and my dealer at my new military station in SC were $4k more and wouldn't budge.

Oh yeah. I took the rebates instead of $2.99 diesel, it is the same equivalent. So, it was $44,350. We traded an '01 Audi A4 and the '06 Dodge. Got it for $37,000. Loving it so far!

Hey Brian,
Just FYI - I have a 08 Ram 3500 Dually with the 6 speed manual and the 6.7 Cummins. My exhaust brake doesn't cut out at 1600 rpm as you described. It stays on steady and smooth all the way to idle (although I usually push in the clutch before that). Sounds like you might have something else going on that should be checked out?

I'd take the rebates, too.. have heard fuel prices may go down. Hahahaha.

Enjoy your new truck, and congrats!
