Question about the splitter box on a 9513...

Why is the splitter box on a 9513 only active in the upper range ?

It sits between the transmission output shaft and the drive shaft, right ?

Why couldn't it be shifted in the lower range ?

What is the difference between a 13 speed splitter box and an 18 speed splitter box ?

Thanks

I asked the fuller rep at a pete grand openning; he said the 18s have a bearing on one of the shafts instead of a bushing and a different interlock valve to permit the splitter to work in low range, but most of those parts would be for 6 design series 14+ torque Maybe you could rig something up to work on the 95 and the bushing might hold up if you didn't load it to heavy also the 18s are usually overdrive in the main box with the splitter being underdrivewhere as most RTO9513s were direct in main box and OD in the splitter
Now your really confused

The short answer is the OD part of the splitter box is weaker than the rest of the transmission and could not handle the torque of being run in first gear. So 5th is the lowest you get to operate it in.

Plus the gear ratios are close enough in Lo range that they don't need to be split. In fact I think most guys who've actually driven one will agree, you usually skip shift a few gears in Lo even when fully loaded on a hard pull.

That has allways been my take. Guys yap about how majic 18s are and you ask if they ever us the low range split and they give you a dumb look and say what for. so they pay a extra thousand bucks for an extra 1/2 gear in the bottom. Don't get it
