Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

OK so far I have not been checked/diped/whatever you want to call it. People who have tell me they make the owner remove fuel cap then pull sample (about 1/2 cup) from each tank and squirt it into a container then check rear tank (is truck so equiped) then do same thing.
Is this right? Do they (take) the fuel and keep it? Seems kinda strange to me. I get asked dang near every time I fill up by truckers who often say they have been checked many times. One neighbor was checked and he has a GAS ENGINE. The person checking couldn't tell by sound (running) or by sight (Says V10 on side) or even the dang tag (Unleaded gasonline only) (something like that) and of course didn't believe driver. So do they take folks who fail the "do you want fries with that?" crowd or the TSA rejects?

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

Pretty sure the only time we got checked they pulled the fuel into a clear tube then squirted it back in. A giant syringe of sorts. I doubt many places would keep it unless it was red. It would get to be a pain to handle all the left over even at 2.50 a gallon.

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

I got checked about a month ago. It was at a weigh station and I have farm plates. They guy just stuck a small tube in the tank and put his thumb on the end pulled it out just enough to see the color and took his thumb off and put a rag on the tube to wipe it off on the way out. Kurt

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

For anyone so inclined, it is possible to remove the powerstroke emblem and replace with a V10 Emblem on a diesel vehicle and drive it with red fuel................for a little while. But I tell you, don't mess with my powerstroke emblem or I'd be a mad hombre

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

Once again ill bring up a myth. Anyone heard of pills that take the color out. I'm sure theirs some chemical that could do it but im no scientist.

Yeah, I think the noise/exhaust-smell is going to be noticed by the guys doing the checking long before they go looking for some badge stuck to your fender! You'd have to swap out the stickers inside the fuel door too, and then tell them you bought gas at Exxon the last fillup so it's just knocking. (Of course it might just be simpler to pay the tax, since you're, you know, using the vehicle on the road and legally owe it...)

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

Sorry didn't mean to start the debate over red fuel/legality/etc. Just wondering about them pulling fuel sample/declaring it good and keeping fuel.
Now when they add the EXTRA $.75 a gallon they wanted to add to all road fuel on....... I think I might consider it.

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

I've been checked in my KW in several states, most of the time they use a syringe sort of thing and then just put it back in.

On big trucks if you get caught you pay for the capacity of the truck, NOT what is in the tank, mine holds 300 gallons

Usually the fine is per gallon, was $2 in NC I was told by Mr. Fuel checker

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

Geeze, for only 2 bucks a gallon I'd take the gamble. In NV it's a state fine plus federal which can go to 10k.

The fuel color only gives them probable cause to check the sulfur content. If they go to court it's required they have some sort of chemical analyses to make the case..

If heat creates boost and not velocity why not put a blow torch on the exhaust manifold?

Re: Question on fuel check points (red fuel)

"was $2 in NC I was told by Mr. Fuel checker" Since running red fuel is a form of tax fraud your stiffing the feds. I would imagine thats who would come down on you, possibly the state would handle it for them?? And if i remember right, they will have a pretty hefty flat rate to go along with it.

Oh I see, the prosecuting attorney will tell the court the defendant had "no road tax content" in the motor fuel tank.. At that point: CASE DISMISSED
