storing diesel car for extended periods

my diesel benz doesnt get the run it needs to keep a fresh tank of fuel......i m worried that longer term storage of diesel fuel will cause problems with time.. any suggestions for additives that will extend storage of diesel ? thanks !!!!

Re: storing diesel car for extended periods

double dose it with a marine algiside like biobor.and crank it up once a month or so and let it runn a little.and keep the tank filled to the top.you might want to drive it around the block if you can ever so often also to keep the brakes from freezing up and the tires from flat spoting to bad.those are very tough engines though.i fired one up in a old wagon that must of been siting for 5 years all i did was blead the feul system and it fired rite up it smokes like hell for a while but it cleared up.its still running around here somewere.

Keeping the tank full is generally suggested to combat condensation (tank collecting moisture) due to temperature changes. If your diesel is stored in a climate controlled building that should not be a problem and would allow you to store it with only small amounts of fuel. You could then start it up and add a small amount of fresh fuel at intervals.

Re: storing diesel car for extended periods

i found this car in penn late last year , was 2 owner car , only 73k on the clock. seems to be accurate. had some body work but nicely done. had a benz car specialist check her out and gave it two thumbs up. the ride is great on the sdl series.

Re: storing diesel car for extended periods

Nice to know there are other guys on here who drive diesel Mercs! You can use StaBil for the sitting tank - works great.

For me, I drive the Benz more than my Ford - better mpgs.
