Sorry about my english.lol.I buy a rt 910 trans converted to rot.My question is if when the trans is converted all the ratios change or only the 9 and 10.Because in the rt 910 the first shift is 8.61 and end in .100 but in the rto 910 the first shift is 6.51 and ends in .81.I have a cummins 6ct 210hp and a 6.51 ratio is too weak for my truck.Thank you.
Ramon0469, take a deep breath and clear up a few things for me.
What is rot?
When you say "first shift is 8.61 and end in .100" do you mean first gear is 8.61:1 and tenth is 1.00:1 direct drive?
If so then your information on the rto910 would be 6.51:1 first gear working its way to .81:1 overdrive tenth, is that correct?
Please let us know - if we can clear up a few things there are a lot of folks here with expertise to help.

Believer 45, don't you think he's referring to this, I posted it over in another section before the post was moved here?

With some of the Roadrangers (which is what he has) you could dis-assemble the trans and "X" four gears, main shaft versus countershaft, and you'd end up with different ratios in the top couple gears. Without a shop manual stating what number of teeth gears give you what ratio, I doubt if anyone here, including my self, can be of much help.
As I recall, after ratios are switched, the two top gear positions are switched with the shift lever also. In other words, if your highest gear position was towards the truck seat, after the switch it's forward towards the dash.
But if you look at the original post he refers to an 8.61 "first shift" (first gear?) and "end in .100" which, if it refers to a high gear of 1.00:1 direct drive would mean gears 2-9 are spread out between.
Referring to "first shift is 6.51 and ends in .81" would be a higher speed first gear going through the 9 to a top gear of .81:1 overdrive. This would not be simply reversing 9-10 making the original 1.0:1 tenth gear function as ninth gear and, by swapping the two gears involved in ninth, making the original 1.23:1 ninth gear function as a .81:1 tenth gear. This would only change ninth and tenth, 1-8 would be the same.
This kind of confusion is why I asked for clarification.
Ramon, can you help us out?

Thank you very much guys.
In the Rt 910 the first gear is a 8.05 ratio and goes down to end in a .100 in the 10 gear but in the RTO 910 the first gear is a 6.51 ratio and goes down and end in a .81 ratio. In this particular transmission you can convert it from RT to RTO by switching the 4 and the 5 gear inside the trans. My question was if the first 8 gear ratios change also because if that so I cant use it in my Truck because my engine is 210HP and dont have the power for a 6.51 first gear.My opinion is that the trans only change the last 2 gear but I have to be sure before I take down the trans the truck have. And is also true that the shift patern change...
R .....2/7... 4/9
1/6.. 3/8... 5/10
change to
R .....2/7....5/10
1/6 ..3/8.....4/9
I want to use this trans because the truck will go faster and will work at low RPM.The trans I have ends in a .100 gear and to make 55 I have to go at 2,000RPM and Im sure that with a .81 ratio is going to work better......I hope you understand my english bacause Im from Puerto Rico and Im doing the best I can.......LOL......Thank you

Right, that's what I was referring to also.

My question was if the first 8 gear ratios change also.....
Sorry I'm not more help on that question. I think, (but I'm not sure) that I only recall reading in the shop manual that the top two gears can be changed to make it an RTO like you posted above. I used to overhaul all the various sized Roadrangers but I never had to do a ratio change so I never paid that much attention to what all changes could be done. There are other brands of truck transmissions that can also be changed from direct to overdrive if the gears are pressed on the countershafts which most are. Maybe you could contact Eaton or whoever owns Roadranger now and talk to their tech department.
